THE AFTERNOON SUN STREAMED THROUGH THE TALL WINDOWS OF THE LIBRARY, casting long golden streaks across the polished wooden tables. it was quieter than usual, a rare lull in the constant shuffle of papers and whispers. chris sat slouched in one of the stiff chairs, his arms crossed and his sneakers planted firmly on the floor. across from him, zayn leaned back in his seat, one arm draped lazily over the back of his chair while he scrolled on his phone with the other.
the silence between them stretched, broken only by the distant sound of someone typing aggressively on a keyboard. chris's patience was wearing thin, his foot tapping a sharp, repetitive rhythm against the floor.
"are we actually going to plan something, or are you just going to sit there looking smug and useless?" chris finally snapped, his voice low but sharp.
zayn smirked, setting his phone face-down on the table. "patience, man. these things require finesse. planning. strategy."
chris raised an eyebrow. "it's a hangout, zayn. not a military operation."
"it feels like one when you and adriana are involved."
