THE SUN HUNG LOW IN THE AFTERNOON SKY, casting a warm, golden glow over the nearly empty school parking lot. chris leaned against his car, arms crossed tightly over his chest and jaw clenched so hard it felt like it might crack. his eyes were locked on zayn and cecelia, who stood in front of him like they were preparing for some kind of intervention.
zayn wore that same easygoing grin chris had come to associate with trouble, while cecelia's smirk was sharper, her arms folded across her chest as if she were trying to mirror chris's defensive stance.
