.....
Around midnight, I pulled Vivi aside who was dancing with a guy on the makeshift dance floor.
"I think we should leave," I said and she rolled her eyes.
"It's only 12, and neither of us has a curfew so why do you wannna go home early?" Vivi asked me
"I just wanna leave now, I came here as you wanted now let's go." I requested her once again.
By the time the game was over, Ruso had gotten an important call from one of his employees so he had left and I hadn't seen him ever since.
Right when Vivi was about to give me a piece of her mind, someone tapped on my shoulder.
"If you want to leave I can drop you home if you like. I need to leave as well, as I have an early morning tomorrow." I turned around to find Ruso staring behind me looking at me and then at Vivi.
Before I could utter a word, Vivi clapped her hand loudly in delight, "So it's settled then, he will drop you off and now I'm going back to dance with Eric, see you, tomorrow sis." Vivi kissed my cheek picked up a glass of beer and walked back to the dance floor.
I looked up at Ruso who was looking down at me.
"Shall we leave?" he asked and I nodded following him. Did I even have a choice at this point? Probably not.
We walked out of the house side by side and he guided me to a black truck, I got into the passenger's seat and Ruso got behind the wheel.
None of us said anything until we hit the road and when he started driving without even asking me for my address I had to know where we were going.
"Where are we going?"
"I know you want to go home, but do you mind going out with me somewhere? If no, I can always drop you home." He said and I could not say no to his pleading puppy dog eyes.
"I just wanted to get out of that crowded party, I don't mind going anywhere else." I clarified and he grinned.
"Don't worry it's not a crowded house party we are going to."
When I looked around, I found us in the library. The one place where he and I used to spend the most time together. I tutored him and he slept through it mostly.
"We are in the library!" I was just happy to be between all these books once again. I immediately whipped my phone out of my pocket switched on the flashlight and started walking deeper into the room until I found the aisle I was looking for.
FICTION / ROMANCE.
I knew Ruso was close behind me but I don't think he was interested in the books.
I began looking at the new and old books that were neatly lined on the shelf until my fingers touched the one I was looking for.
"Here it is," I whispered to myself and pulled it out. Our school had one of the first editions of Pride and Prejudice. And all throughout my high school I had borrowed it at least 20 or 30 times.
I flipped through the pages and found the markings I had made with colored pens and highlighters. Marking my favorite passages and sentences.
I moved towards the sitting area only to find Ruso already settled on the same table we used to sit on.
"I knew you loved this place that's why I wanted to bring you here when no one was around to disturb you." He said and the moment inside the closet when he admitted liking me flacked before my eyes.
I settled on my seat around the small two-person table browsing the book. He pulled a nearby table lamp and lit it for me to read. He lay his head on his folded hands looking at me.
For a second, we were transported back to the time when I used to tutor him.
"Don't you want to read anything?" I asked him.
"Did I ever read anything?" he asked and I chuckled.
"Why don't you read to me?" he asked.
"Read to me whatever you are reading." He requested and for some reason, I began.
