the soft morning light filtered through the blinds, casting gentle shadows across y/n's room. but she couldn't focus on anything—the excitement of the evening ahead had her mind spinning. after bakugo's invitation to dinner, she felt a mix of anticipation and nervous energy. it was a date. a real one, and it had been a while since she'd felt this way.
she tried to distract herself with a few assignments, but no matter what she did, her thoughts kept drifting back to bakugo—his voice, the way he'd smiled at her, and how he'd asked her out so casually the night before. she felt her heart race every time she thought about it.
her phone buzzed, and she quickly grabbed it, hoping for a distraction. a message from bakugo popped up: "ready for tonight? i'll pick you up at 7."
her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly typed back: "can't wait!" she set the phone down, a small smile creeping across her face.
just as she was about to go back to her work, there was a knock at the door. she opened it to find mina standing there with her usual radiant grin.
"mina! what are you doing here?" y/n laughed, stepping aside to let her in.
"i came to help, obviously!" mina said, not missing a beat. "you're going on a date with bakugo tonight, and i'm not letting you go out looking anything less than amazing."
y/n raised an eyebrow. "you're serious about this, huh?"
"of course!" mina winked and immediately started to rummage through y/n's wardrobe. "now, what are you thinking? casual? sexy? i'll help you figure it out."
y/n hesitated, not sure what to go for. "i don't want to overdo it... it's just dinner, right?"
mina rolled her eyes dramatically. "it's bakugo we're talking about here. you need to look good, but most importantly, you need to feel confident. trust me, this is your night to shine."
a few minutes of debating between outfits later, mina pulled out a sleek black dress with a subtle cut-out at the sides. "this is it," she declared with a satisfied nod. "it's chic, simple, and totally gorgeous."
y/n raised an eyebrow at the dress. "it's a little more than i expected, but i love it."
"exactly!" mina grinned, holding up a pair of black heels to match. "these will make you look even more stunning. you'll turn heads."
y/n took a deep breath before stepping into the dress. it fit perfectly, hugging her curves without feeling too tight, and the heels added a sense of elegance she didn't expect to feel. mina was right. she looked and felt different—more confident.
mina then turned her attention to y/n's hair. "let's do soft waves—nothing too fancy. just a relaxed look, you know?"
as mina worked, y/n laughed at the energy her friend had. "i can't believe you're doing all this for me."
mina grinned. "of course! you deserve it. now, when bakugo sees you tonight, he won't be able to take his eyes off you."
once the look was complete, y/n took one last look in the mirror. her hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, the black dress fitting just right, and the heels gave her a touch of grace she didn't realize she had. she smiled at her reflection. "okay, okay, you were right," she admitted. "i do feel pretty good. thank you."
mina gave her a quick hug. "you're welcome. now go get 'em!"
just as they finished, the doorbell rang. y/n's heart skipped a beat, and she glanced at mina, who gave her a wink. "go on, have fun! he's probably waiting for you."
y/n walked to the door, her heart racing with every step. when she opened it, she found bakugo standing outside. his usual intensity was still there, but there was something softer about him tonight. his gaze softened when it landed on her, and his eyes briefly widened, but he quickly masked it with his usual cool demeanor.
"ready?" bakugo asked, his voice a little deeper than normal.
y/n smiled, her chest warming at the sound of his voice. "yeah, let's go."
the drive to the restaurant was comfortable, the quiet filling the car as they both settled into a relaxed rhythm. every now and then, y/n found herself sneaking glances at bakugo, wondering if he felt the same nervous energy she did. his usual intensity had softened tonight, and that put her at ease.
when they arrived at the restaurant, it was an intimate, cozy place, with dim lighting and smooth jazz playing in the background. they were led to their table, and as the evening wore on, the conversation flowed easily between them. bakugo shared stories about his childhood and his struggles, things y/n hadn't known about him. in turn, y/n talked about her life, her ambitions, and a few embarrassing moments that made her laugh.
the connection between them felt easy, almost effortless, as if they were finally seeing each other in a new light.
as they finished their meal, bakugo leaned back in his chair and glanced over at her. "you having a good time?" he asked, his tone casual, but the way he was watching her told a different story.
y/n smiled. "i'm having a great time. thanks for this. it's been really nice."
"yeah, same here," bakugo said, a small but genuine smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "we should do this again sometime."
after dinner, bakugo drove y/n back to her apartment, the quiet night stretching out before them. when they arrived, he parked the car, and they both sat there for a moment, neither of them quite ready to let the night end.
"you good to get inside?" bakugo asked, his voice softer than she expected.
y/n nodded, feeling a flutter in her chest. "yeah. thanks again for tonight. it was... really nice."
bakugo got out of the car and walked with her to her door. as she reached for the handle, he stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. y/n turned to face him, finding him staring at her with a look she hadn't expected—intense, but full of something else.
before she could speak, bakugo leaned in and kissed her—gentle but firm, his hand resting at the small of her back. the kiss was brief, but it left her breathless. when they pulled apart, he was the first to break the silence.
"i enjoyed today," he said quietly, his voice low and a little rough.
y/n's heart fluttered again, her breath catching. she smiled softly, still processing the moment. "me too," she whispered.
with a small nod, bakugo stepped back. "i'll see you around, y/n," he said before turning toward the car.
