the morning light filtered through the blinds, casting soft shadows across the room. y/n stirred, the warmth of the blanket around her and the steady rhythm of bakugo's breathing beside her a comforting presence. for a moment, she just lay there, savoring the silence, her mind still trying to process the events of the night. the quiet moments spent together, the feeling of his arms around her, it all felt surreal—like something out of a dream.
she glanced at the clock—still early. the weight of the night hung in the air, and though it felt peaceful, a tension lingered, too. the connection between her and bakugo was undeniable, but what exactly was it? was it just a fleeting moment, or was something more starting to develop between them?
with a quiet sigh, y/n gently lifted herself off the couch, making sure not to disturb bakugo. she sat on the edge for a moment, her thoughts swirling. what did they even call this? were they something more than friends now? she glanced back at him as he slept, his chest rising and falling steadily, his usual intensity softened in sleep. he looked almost... vulnerable. that thought made her smile softly, but also left her with a sense of uncertainty. she couldn't ignore the fact that something was changing between them.
a few minutes later, bakugo stirred, his eyes fluttering open and meeting hers. there was a quiet moment of just looking at each other, the space between them filled with unspoken words.
"morning," y/n said softly, her voice a little unsure.
"yeah," bakugo muttered, rubbing his eyes. his voice was rough with sleep, but it still had that familiar edge to it. he shifted, sitting up a little, and his gaze softened, just a little. "you sleep okay?"
"yeah, actually," y/n replied, feeling the weight of the question. "did you?"
bakugo hesitated, a flicker of something—almost like hesitation or uncertainty—crossing his features. "yeah," he finally said. "i don't usually... sleep like that."
y/n nodded, unsure how to respond. "it was... nice," she said quietly, her heart beating a little faster. "but... we should talk about last night."
bakugo raised an eyebrow, sitting up more now, his posture tense. "yeah? about what?"
she took a deep breath, not wanting to rush things but knowing that they needed to figure out where they stood. "i just don't want things to get weird," she said carefully. "i mean, we... spent time together, and it felt... good, but i think maybe we should take things slow? i'm not saying i don't want this, but maybe we should get to know each other more before rushing into something."
bakugo's eyes softened a fraction, his usual intensity now mixed with something gentler. "i get it," he said after a moment. "i'm not exactly the kind of guy who jumps into stuff either. i'd rather not screw things up." he paused, his gaze lingering on her. "i don't know what this is yet... but i'm interested in seeing where it goes."
y/n nodded, feeling a small weight lift from her chest. "me too. so, we can just... hang out, get to know each other more. no rush."
bakugo grunted in agreement. "yeah. no rush."
there was a moment of quiet before y/n let out a small, nervous laugh. "so... does that mean we're still friends?"
bakugo chuckled, a genuine sound that made y/n's heart skip. "yeah, i guess so. for now."
she smiled, her nerves easing slightly. "okay, friends it is then."
they shared a look, the air between them feeling a little lighter now, and though they weren't making any big declarations, something unspoken was still there—a mutual understanding that whatever this was, they would take their time with it.
later that day, y/n met mina for coffee at their usual spot on campus. as soon as y/n sat down, mina looked her up and down with a teasing smile.
"so," mina began, her voice light and playful. "how was your night with bakugo?"
y/n felt her cheeks warm, but she tried to keep her cool. "it was good. we... talked a lot. and just hung out, really."
mina raised an eyebrow. "uh-huh. and?"
y/n laughed, shaking her head. "nothing happened, if that's what you're asking. we just... connected, i guess. we decided to take things slow, to just be friends and see where things go."
mina's eyes widened in surprise. "so you two didn't, like, kiss or...?"
"no, mina," y/n said, shaking her head with a smile. "we're not rushing into anything. we're just taking our time, figuring things out."
mina leaned back in her chair, nodding slowly. "i get it. but i have to admit, i'm kind of surprised. i thought you two were gonna jump into something right away."
y/n shrugged, feeling oddly at peace with her decision. "me too, but... i don't want to mess it up by rushing."
mina smiled, her usual teasing expression softening. "i respect that, girl. you've got this. and honestly, i think you two are good for each other."
y/n smiled, her heart swelling just a little. "thanks, mina."
they chatted a little longer, and though y/n couldn't quite shake the feeling that things with bakugo were still undefined, she felt more confident in her choice to take it slow. whatever came next, she knew it would be worth the wait.
