the next few days seemed to pass in a blur, a seamless routine of classes, study sessions, and moments that felt strangely empty without much change. y/n found herself going through the motions, the usual noise of campus life filling the space around her, but her mind kept drifting back to the moments she'd shared with bakugo. there had been nothing particularly significant about their interactions, nothing that stood out as more than just the occasional brush of shoulders in passing, the brief glances exchanged as they both went about their day.
still, something had shifted, something that lingered unspoken between them. the way their eyes met for just a beat longer than usual, the small smile that tugged at his lips when he caught her looking. it was subtle, yet undeniable—a quiet tension building, not of words, but of presence. it was as though they both knew there was something more there, but neither was brave enough to voice it aloud.
y/n found it hard to shake the feeling, especially when she saw bakugo across campus, his familiar, intense presence cutting through the crowd. the usual sharpness of his gaze was still there, the rigid body language, but there was a softness, a hint of something she couldn't quite place.
every time she caught sight of him, her thoughts seemed to wander back to the terrace, to the night she'd spent leaning into him, his warmth surrounding her as they spoke in quiet, intimate tones. it was a side of bakugo she hadn't expected to see, and it made her heart race in a way she wasn't ready to admit.
she shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts as she hurried across campus, her mind still tangled in the aftermath of the party. there was no point in overthinking it. nothing had really changed. they were still bakugo and y/n—nothing more, nothing less. right?
but just as she reached the door to her next lecture hall, a voice—sharp and unmistakable—called her name, pulling her from her thoughts.
"y/n."
her heart skipped, a flutter of surprise rushing through her as she turned toward the sound. there he was. bakugo stood a few steps away, his usual scowl softened by an unreadable look in his eyes. he didn't seem to have the same confident air about him that he usually wore, his stance a little more hesitant than she was used to seeing.
for a moment, neither of them spoke. the bustle of students around them seemed to fade, the world narrowing down to just the two of them. y/n found herself wondering what this moment meant, and whether he was thinking the same thing.
"hey," he said, voice quieter than usual, as though he was carefully considering his words. "you, uh... you busy right now?"
y/n blinked, her pulse quickening at the question. she wasn't expecting this, not after everything that had happened on the terrace, but there it was, an opening. she hesitated for only a second before offering him a small, curious smile.
"no, not really. just heading to class." she glanced at the door behind her before turning back to him. "what's up?"
bakugo shifted on his feet, running a hand through his hair as if unsure of how to continue. "i was thinking... maybe we could grab a coffee or something after? if you're free."
the words hung in the air for a moment, each syllable weighted with something unspoken. y/n's heart gave an unexpected leap. bakugo, the guy who typically avoided anything that resembled small talk or casual hangouts, was asking to spend time with her outside of their usual, random interactions. she had no idea what this meant, but she felt a small spark of excitement at the idea.
she smiled a little wider, trying to keep things light. "sure, that sounds good."
bakugo nodded, his gaze flickering to the ground briefly before meeting her eyes again. "cool. i'll meet you after your class."
"alright. see you then," she replied, a little more hesitant than she'd intended.
with that, bakugo gave a small, almost imperceptible nod before turning to leave, his movements sharp as ever. y/n watched him go, her mind racing as she replayed the interaction over and over in her head. this was new territory—territory she wasn't sure she was ready to navigate. but one thing was clear: something was changing between them. whether she wanted it or not, it seemed like this was just the beginning.
