⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sonny couldn't remember when she'd last got on a ferry over to the mainland.
A year ago? Maybe two?
Needless to say, it wasn't recent. And if it was, then it was totally forgettable — like the few times they'd had to catch a flight for a vacation that they didn't sail to, which was rarer than finding a bunch of gold in a well.
The Penbrooks were made for the water; a family full of sailors and swimmers with boats at the ready. They hardly ever needed to take the ferry. The only memory that sort of stuck out was when Cheryl first brought her here — to the OBX to meet her parents. That was probably the one real memory she had of the mainland, too. She didn't treasure that part very much, if at all.
It wasn't that great.
"My parents are so paranoid of me being a Pogue, like that's the worst thing that could ever happen." Kie ranted, perched on the side of the truck bed with Benji. He tried giving her an encouraging smile.
