Strong, bright rays of the sun permeated through the overhead coverage of the forest trees, momentarily warming your skin as you strolled along. After a good night's rest, you returned to your normal self: confident and ready to take on the day.

You began your morning like any other since starting your assignment.

You walked through the forest and checked up on all eight of the seeds you planted, watering them and making sure they were well taken care of.

The first seed you had planted around two weeks ago had grown quite large. Its spindling branches loomed over you, casting you in a cold shadow. You wagered that this tree was practically fully grown! If anything, one more week of watering would probably bring it into full maturity.

You patted at the tree's trunk and gave it words of praise before continuing on to the other saplings in the woods.

It seemed like all the other saplings you checked up on were growing pretty well, too. Most of them were almost, if not at, your height level. Well, except, of course, the one that had just been planted, no thanks to those two numbskulls. However, as you approached the last planted seed, you could already see some twisting branches emerging a few inches from the ground.

Dang, Zalgo wasn't kidding when he said these things grow fast. You guessed you weren't the only one taking care of them.

Satisfied from completing your duties, you took a deep breath and decided to go do something you hadn't done in a while.

You zipped up your backpack and made your way out from deep within the woods. You relied on your senses and memory to lead you out of the forest until you felt the familiar crunch of wood chips beneath your shoes. The swings creaked in the wind and the sound of children's laughter warmed your soul.

Well, since I'm here, I might as well refill the bottles again, you thought to yourself as you entered the playground's perimeter. You could feel the rising sun on your face so you knew the town was in that direction. You'd head that way as soon as you finished.

"Hey! Nice lady!" a child's voice rang from the opposite direction you were looking. You heard the girl before you were able to "see" her.

"Uh, me?" you asked as you packed away your water bottles and waited for her to approach you.

As she drew near, you noticed she had a few items in her hands, but she moved too ecstatically for you to make out what they were exactly. The girl hugged your legs the moment she reached you.

"Oh! Uh, hello?" you said, though you weren't certain as to who this was.

When she finally released your leg, you quickly made out the outline of a small toy plush she had in her hands before she hid it behind her back. You immediately knew who this little girl was.

"Thank you!" she said as she looked up at you.

"Wh— For what?" you stammered.

"My mommy let me stop going to dance practice! And now I can play more in the park with her. I found these today when we were walking together," she said as she finally revealed what was behind her back: a small bundle of flowers.

You cloaked the sadness you felt by cracking a pleased smile across your lips. You couldn't see the colorful display those flowers carried, but more than that, you knew you never would.

"I want you to have them!" the little girl continued.

Your eyes slightly widened, and you mentally clutched at your heart over how thoughtful she was.
