My phone rings for the nth time as I try to climb up the stairs as fast as I can, out of all days the elevator had to be out of service TODAY, wearing the heavy lehenga seems to add to the misery, I open the door to the hall and see my whole family...
"Did I live with you in a past life? Was I your lifelong partner? Is that why the idea of losing you torments me so much? How long have I been without you? -- Gabriela Mistral -------------------------------------------------------- Vahni POV--
Three years later...
I wake up to the sound of my husband's gentle presence beside me. As I open my eyes, I notice Vihaan's facial features, his strong jawline, his piercing eyes, and his bright smile. Even after all these years, I still feel butterflies in my stomach when I look at him.
Vihaan and I got married a year after I moved back to Kolkata, surrounded by our loved ones. It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony, and I felt like the luckiest person in the world.
As I look around our cozy bedroom, I feel a sense of contentment wash over me. Our home is filled with love, laughter, and the sound of tiny feet pattering around the house.
Our little bundle of joy, Aarav, is the center of our universe, and we can't imagine life without him. Aarav is a curious, energetic two-year-old who keeps us on our toes. He has Vihaan's bright smile and my curious nature. We're so proud of the little person he's becoming.
As I lie in bed, listening to Aarav's soft babbling in the next room, I feel a sense of peace wash over me. This is what happiness feels like.
Vihaan stirs beside me, opening his eyes to smile at me. "Good morning," he says, his voice husky with sleep.
"Good morning," I reply, snuggling into his side.
We lie there for a while, watching the sunlight stream through the windows and listening to Aarav's giggles from the next room.
Finally, Vihaan gets out of bed, stretching his tall frame. "I'll go get Aarav," he says, smiling at me.
I nod, smiling back at him. "I'll start breakfast."
As Vihaan heads to Aarav's room, I get out of bed, feeling a sense of excitement and joy. This is what our mornings are like now – filled with laughter, love, and the sound of tiny feet pattering around the house.
I head to the kitchen, starting breakfast as Vihaan brings Aarav into the room. Aarav runs to me, throwing his arms around my legs. "Mama!" he exclaims, looking up at me with big, round eyes.
I scoop him up, hugging him tightly. "Good morning, baby," I say, kissing his soft cheeks.
Vihaan smiles at us, his eyes shining with love. "I'm the luckiest man in the world," he says, coming over to hug us both.
As we stand there, wrapped in each other's arms, I feel a sense of gratitude wash over me. This is what happiness feels like – being surrounded by the people you love, feeling grateful for every moment you spend together.
We spend the rest of the morning together, laughing, chatting, and enjoying each other's company. It's a beautiful, ordinary morning, filled with love, laughter, and the sound of tiny feet pattering around the house.
As we finish breakfast and start getting ready for the day, I look over at Vihaan and smile. "I love you," I say, feeling grateful for this beautiful life we've built together.
Vihaan smiles back at me, his eyes shining with love. "I love you too," he says, coming over to hug me tightly.
As we stand there, wrapped in each other's arms, I know that this is where I'm meant to be. I'm home, surrounded by the people I love, and I couldn't be happier.
