"She's awake." The doctor said. I got up instantly, desperate to see her alright. "But don't make any sudden movements, she's not in the mental state right now."
Penny followed behind me inside the room, Hannah flinched by just hearing the door open. Penelope moved patiently to her and threw her hands around her, hugging her. "I'm so sorry I let this idiot take care of you. I should have never left." She mumbled.
"I-It was my choice, Penny." She mumbled, getting me out of trouble. Yeah, she was not happy how I let Hannah do this. I have been hearing her scoldings from last night's incident. I deserve it. But in my defence, the fire was not in our plan.
The doctor came in with a slip of medications to buy for Hannah. Penelope volunteered to do it and asked me to properly care of myself and her atleast now, cause I wasn't in the state to move. The fire had caused me some damage too.
I really should have waited for the firefighters, but, I freaking risked it all and ran inside a burning building without thinking twice to get her out. I got a bit, okay that's an understatement, seriously injured from that act of stupidity.
"Are you okay?" Her voice was so hushed that I almost missed it.
"That's supposed to be my question." I sat by her bed on one of the hospital chairs. The legs of the chair scraped the floor and that made her jump. "Sorry. Are you feeling okay?"
She thought for a moment, and nodded. "Atleast I'm not dead." She mumbled, sinking into the bed. She was paranoid of almost everything; shadows, footsteps, and...people. Mostly men.
She kept her guard on infront of me. That stings, even if she went through something traumatic. It really hurts when your bestfriend sees you like a stranger. About to hurt her anytime. I suppose I've got to gain her trust again.
"Is he still alive?" She whispered, her palms gripping the blanket so tight that her knuckles went white. "Did you catch him?"
That was well, a little problem. "He's dead." I lied confidently in hopes she'd beleive me. She doesn't need more paranoia than she already has if I said we didn't find his body in the burnt house. So to answer her question, we really have no idea if that psycho's dead or alive.
Her shoulders relaxed just a little bit, her eyes shifted to mine. "Did you consult a doctor for that? It looks painful." She eyed at my freshly bandaged arm.
"I'm fine. Just a mild injury." I lied again. The doctor said if I had bled two more minutes, I wouldn't have been standing here. I would have went to sleep, permanently. Lucky me, I knew how to aid deep cuts.
She hummed an okay, burying herself under the blanket. She was clearly not comfortable with me. I stood, careful not to make any sudden movements or sounds. "If it helps, I'll leave." I said, I didn't want to make her feel worse.
"Don't go." She peeked out of the blanket. "Don't leave me alone, just stay until Penny comes. Please."
I stayed. My heart pounded in my ear when she pleaded me not to go. Well, it was probably cause people tend to feel more safe with a few people around.
"Okay, I'm not going anywhere." I sat back down on the chair. And I meant it when I said it. This was supposed to be just a temporary trip from London to attend this case. But now, it's going to be just a little more extended.
I called my father and nodded through the phone.
"Mmhm. I'm shifting here."
