Freya had been with the Cullens for two years. She still struggled to remember things, but if repeated constantly, things start to stick sometimes. Charlie would visit as often as he could, but lately, he was too busy getting ready for his oldest daughter to move back in that he hadn't seen Freya in a few months. This upset the Cullens even if she doesn't remember as he never kept to the schedule they had agreed on. But knowing he was trying harder for a child that didn't want to be there and pushing aside a child that enjoys his company even with her memory.
Charlie had rung and asked if he could meet at the dinner so he could see Freya after he finished work before heading to pick his daughter up.
The Cullens had all arrived waiting for Charlie to come. As they did, they ordered food to not look out of place. Freya was colouring in her book. She was having a good day so far she had to be reminded when she woke up who everyone was and what they were going to do today. And she hasn't forgotten anything yet. The Cullens were happy over the last two years since adopting her they have become closer as a family and have become protective over Freya.
They had been waiting for a little over two hours for Charlie, but he never came, and the dinner was closing.
"Did he forget he made plans?" Rosalie whispered hissed. She was mad that Charlie had done this again. He makes plans and then forgets only to remember after and call to apologise and try to arrange another time.
"It appears so." Carlisle said with a sad sigh. He knew Freya was excited about today after being told she was seeing her dad today.
Esme looked at her adopted daughter and moved so she was kneeling next to her, taking her hands.
"Hey, honey, we need to go home now. Get you ready for bed it's getting late." She said softly. She was trying not to look too sad.
"Is dad not coming?" Freya asked, looking around at everyone.
"No, honey, he's not." Emse said with small tears in her eyes.
"Why not? Doesn't he want to see me?" Freya replied as he bottom lipp shook a bit in sadness.
"Oh, sweetheart, he does want to see you he does. But he must have gotten busy and forgotten again." Carlisle omwas the one to speak up. Sad to see his youngest upset. He would be lying if he didn't agree that when Charlie does this, it angers him for allowing him to hurt her again. He also knew that now there wasn't going to be a good day like this for a long time. She was hurt and would turn in on herself, and when she does that, she forgets more.
"Ok." Freya said sadly, looking back to her colouring book.
As if a switch had been flipped, Freya's mind went blank. Edward looked towards Carlisle to let him know she had forgotten again.
Rosalie tried to hold in a sob alongside Esme. Alice curled up into jasper's side, trying not to cry. Emmet pulled rosalie to him. Carlisle pulled Esme to him as Edward went to Freya.
"Hey, Freya." Edward spoke softly. "It's me, Edward, I'm your brother." At this, Freya smiled widely. "Ready to go home? I'm sure your other brothers and sisters are waiting for us outside."
Freya jumped up and held her arms up for Edward to puck her up.
"Ok, Edward, why are we here?" Freya asked as they exited the diner.
"We came to have some food. As a family." Edward couldn't bring himself to tell the whole truth. Neither could the others as they watched and listened to the scen that played out in front of them.
~time skip~
They had managed to get Freya to sleep an hour ago and was now sitting in the room with the others.
