Jennie and Lisa had worked hard to rebuild their lives, but the past never fully left Jennie's mind. The thought that Lisa might cheat on her, even after everything they had been through, lingered in the back of her head. It wasn't something she wanted to feel, but as the saying goes, "Once a cheater, always a cheater." She couldn't shake that fear, and no matter how many times Lisa reassured her, it seemed to linger like an unwanted shadow.
One afternoon, when Lisa had an important meeting with a potential client, Jennie couldn't fight the uneasy feeling that crawled under her skin. She tried to ignore it, but it gnawed at her until she couldn't take it any longer.
Lisa had been up early, preparing for the meeting. She kissed Jennie goodbye, leaving her in the quiet of their home with the twins. It wasn't unusual for Lisa to have a busy day with clients, but today, the thought of another woman in Lisa's life consumed Jennie.
As Lisa sat across from her client in the sleek conference room, discussing contracts and strategies, she couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and she excused herself to check it. Her heart skipped when she saw Jennie's name on the screen.
"Lisa, are you with her?" Jennie's voice was sharp, edged with anxiety. "Is she your mistress? Are you seeing her behind my back?"
Lisa's stomach dropped as the words hit her. She glanced quickly at her client, who was quietly observing the exchange. She didn't know what to do, but she couldn't hide the tension in her voice as she answered. "Jennie, what are you talking about? Who are you talking about?"
But before she could explain, the door to the conference room swung open, and Jennie stormed in, eyes blazing. "Is this your mistress, Lisa?" Jennie spat, her voice trembling with emotion. "I know how it works! I know how this goes! You think I wouldn't notice? You think I wouldn't see through it?"
The client, a young woman with dark, sharp eyes, looked taken aback but said nothing. Lisa stood up quickly, trying to keep the situation from escalating.
"Baby, calm down," Lisa said gently, trying to take her by the arm, but Jennie yanked away.
"I'm not crazy, Lisa!" Jennie snapped, her voice a mix of hurt and anger. "I can see it in your eyes, hear it in your tone. You're lying to me, and I don't know how to trust you anymore!"
Lisa took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. She understood where Jennie's fear was coming from-how could she not? Jennie had suffered so much, and every instinct inside her screamed that history was about to repeat itself. Still, Lisa had hoped that time and patience had healed that wound.
"Baby, I swear to you, there is no one else," Lisa said, her voice soft but firm. "I made a mistake once, but I would never do that to you. Not now, not ever. You have to trust me."
Jennie shook her head, her eyes glistening with tears. "How can I trust you? You've already destroyed everything, Lisa. You've hurt me, hurt Chaeyoung, hurt everyone. And now, you're meeting women like this behind my back. I can't live with that!"
Lisa's eyes softened, and she took a step back, looking at the floor as she collected herself. She understood Jennie's pain. The guilt that had followed her from the moment her affair with Jennie had started still haunted her every day.
"I can't keep doing this, Lisa," Jennie said, her voice breaking as she wiped her tears. "I can't keep wondering if you'll hurt me like you did with Chaeyoung."
Lisa looked at Jennie with a heart full of regret and pain. She knew this was a deeper issue, one that wouldn't disappear overnight. But it didn't matter, because she loved Jennie, and she would do anything to prove it to her.
