It was cold outside, and snow had started to stick to the ground. In a small town called forks. A small town where everyone knew everyone.
In front of a worn house was a 3 year old sitting near the door on the step. She had been there for most of the night. She wore a thick coat and scarf and gloves with warm trousers and thick boots on. She doesn't quite remember what she was doing there she got up as she started the walk, a piece of paper fell from her lap, and she quickly looked at it it only said one word. 'Stay' so she did she went to sit near the door again. She felt so cold but she didn't know what she was waiting for. Was she waiting for someone? Did she do something bad and now is being punished? Was she abandoned? Her thoughts were cut off when the door opened and a man came out.
Chief Swan stepped out of his house with a coffee in one hand and his keys in the other, ready to leave for work like any normal day. But today would be far from normal. Stepping outside and about to lock the door, charlie saw a small figure slightly move, making him jump with a little squeal. He placed a hand on his chest as he watched the small girl get up and waddle to him.
"Sowry. Mister. I wa told to stay. I have short-term memory loss. I'm Freya." The little girl held her hand up for him to shake. Once he did, she spoke again. "I'm cooled."
"Come on, let's get you to the station, and you can warm up, and we can find your mummy. I'll look through your bag just in case." Charlie said, getting the 3 year old in the car.
"Otay." She said as she looked at him.
He smiled at the girl, his heart hurt. How could someone abandon their child? And in this weather. It made him both angry and sad.
When charlie had her all seated in, he went to look through her bag for any clues. Upon opening it, he found a letter addressed to him and a file. When he opened it he was shocked. The little girl was his daughter from a one night stand 3 years ago. The letter told him what he needed to know and that she couldn't look after her anymore, so she left her on the doorstep.
He slowly stood up and walked to the car, seeing the young girl sleeping already and wrapped in a blanket he gave her. He didn't know what to do. How was he going to look after a child who forgets almost everything when she falls asleep. But he knew one thing he wad going to do his best for her.
