Vahni POV:

As the bell rings, signaling the end of the tiffin break, I hastily pack my things and leave, trying to reach the classroom before the hallways get crowded. I feel Veer behind me, his long strides quickly closing the distance between us.

"Why are you coming with me? Don't you have to be in your class?" I ask, trying to sound nonchalant despite the growing unease in my stomach.

Veer smirks, clearly enjoying my discomfort. "Oh, our teacher is absent today, and our classes have been merged with yours. We all have physics now," he explains, his eyes glinting with amusement.

I stop dead in my tracks, my eyes widening in horror. "WHAT???" I exclaim, my voice louder than I intended.

Veer chuckles, coming to a halt beside me. "Yeah, why? Did you think you'd be rid of me that easily, princess?" he teases, his voice low and husky.

I glare at him, feeling my face heat up with irritation. "How come you know that our classes are merged, but I don't?" I demand, trying to keep my cool.

Veer shrugs, his expression innocent. "Because, princess, it was announced at the start of the tiffin break when you were in the library," he says, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

I scoff, hard, and start moving again, Veer catching up with my pace as we walk through the corridors to my class. As we get closer, Veer says, clearly enjoying my irritation, "Just for your information, we'll have all our physics classes together from tomorrow onwards, since our teacher is sick, until further notice."

I glare at him, unable to form any words. Then, he leans down and whispers in my ear, his breath sending shivers down my spine, "So, you'll see me every day now, princess."

I don't bother to reply this time, my mind racing with thoughts of how to hide in the classroom. Veer and Vihaan are in the same section, which means Vihaan will also be present in the classroom. My heart sinks at the thought of facing both of them.

As I enter the classroom, I'm immediately struck by the sea of familiar faces. Many of the other students have already arrived, and I spot Vihaan sitting in the center of the classroom, surrounded by his friends. Our eyes meet, and I feel a spark of tension, but I quickly look away, determined not to let him get under my skin.

I make my way to the back of the classroom, seeking out a quiet corner where I can sit and observe. I've never been a fan of physics, and I usually spend this class sleeping, thanks to our lenient teacher.

Just as I'm settling in, I hear Aryaan, one of Vihaan's friends, calling out to Veer. "Come here, brother, sit! We've saved a seat for you!" Veer declines, saying, "No, I'm going to sit with princess today."

I whip my head around, my neck protesting the sudden movement. Veer saunters over, a smirk on his face, and plops down beside me. I feel a flutter in my chest as our thighs touch, but I quickly push the sensation aside.

The classroom falls silent, with all eyes on us. Some of my classmates are smiling, while others look curious. I can feel the weight of their stares.

"What game are you playing, Veer Seth?" I hiss, trying to keep my voice low.

Veer chuckles, clearly amused. "Oh, oh, what's with taking my whole name, princess?" he teases.

I glare at him. "For the nth time, Veer, don't call me that!"

Veer holds up his hands in mock surrender. "Okay, okay, calm down, sweetheart. I was just having fun."

I can feel a pair of eyes burning holes into my head, and I know without looking that it's Vihaan. A surge of anger and hurt rises up in me, and I think to myself, So he can be with a girl, betraying me, and I can't even sit beside his best friend? At least Veer treats me better.

The teacher walks in, and the classroom and everyone settles in for the lesson. I try to focus, but Veer's proximity is distracting. He's sitting so close that it's practically impossible not to touch him.

I put my head down on the desk, ready to catch on my sleep. But after a few minutes, I'm jolted awake by Veer's soft singing. I look up to see him gazing at me, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"What are you doing? Can't you see I'm trying to sleep?" I ask, exasperated.

Veer smirks. "Yes, I can, and I'm helping you with that, princess, by singing you a lullaby."

I roll my eyes. This guy will never learn. Instead of correcting him again, I say, "Well, I appreciate your efforts, Veer, but you don't have to. I'm better without that."

Veer winks at me, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I have better ways to make your eyes roll, princess," he whispers, just as our teacher clears his throat to get our attention.

"Veer and Vahni, what are you two talking about? What's so interesting would you like to share with the whole class?" our teacher asks, his voice firm but amused.

My cheeks heat up in embarrassment as I feel all eyes on me. Veer, however, seems completely nonchalant. "Nothing, sir. Was just singing a lullaby for princess as she was trying to sleep," he says casually, as if it's the most normal thing in the world.

By this time, I'm sure my whole face is red with anger and embarrassment. I've never been called out in class before. I'm always disciplined and make it a point not to disturb anyone.

Our teacher, who looks like he's used to Veer's antics over the years, raises an eyebrow. "Whatever it is, keep it low. Others are trying to learn," he says, his voice firm.

Veer grins, seeming to enjoy the attention, and leans back in his chair, his eyes never leaving mine. I, on the other hand, try to sink into my seat, my face still burning with embarrassment.
