CHAPTER 18: CRAZY AND INSANE
HAVEN'S POV
"He waged war because of her. The Obsidian Legion was the largest criminal group in the worldand yet Allessio managed to bring them down. For her." She shook her head while looking at me with a pitying look. "I know what it's like to be with him. His words make you see the possibility of a future with him. But in the end, you'll be left with nothing but his expensive parting gifts and one last good fuck."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because you seem like a good girl who's going to get both her dream and heart broken." The woman glanced at the door, and she lowered her voice. "You're an Agosti right? Your mother is an Agosti-Escarra. I heard about you from my brother. He's the contact that bridged your parents to Allessio."
My eyes widened in surprise. "You know my parents?"
"We know your mother," she corrected. "Do you know that she's half Italian? She's the reason why your family has a lot of contacts with the criminal society."
"I don't... I don't understand the relevance of my parents to—"
"Do you really think Allessio will forget about the money he lost? He's a capo. He wouldn't have survived in this life if he's not as ruthless as the rest of them. Maybe even more."
I shook my head. "He said they offered him a payment."
"Yes. You."
"What?"
"You're the payment. Your parents sold you to him, and if he's keeping you, then maybe he accepted. But if he's not bringing up marriage, then it's possible that he has other plans for you rather than marrying you."
"P-Plans?"
"You've seen it today. How marriage can strengthen the mafia families. A marriage to you will not do anything for Idalionbut if he's the one who's going to offer you to others after he trained you, then that's a different matter. I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt someone touched my hand. I flinched before I could stop myself, and I saw Allessio's forehead furrowed in confusion. We were in the car, and I hadn't noticed that we had already stopped in front of his house because I was so lost in thought.
