I was smiling carefree, enjoying the view of the whole city from the Ferris wheel ride. The cold wind gently brushed against my skin, making me shudder, but it also felt great.
The sun settled down from the horizon, casting orange and red hues on my face. Henry chickened out and said he would rather enjoy from down there, and I didn't want to push him too hard. So, I let it slide and am enjoying this alone.
The whole thing felt surreal, as if a scene straight out of a movie. It faded as soon as the ride moved down, I skipped out of the compartment. Henry was just waiting for me.
"Enjoyed that?" He asked, his focus clearly on everything else other than me. He has been odd this entire day. And I haven't questioned it, cause I enjoyed being with him nevertheless.
I nodded to his question with a soft smile, he struck a smile back. "Great. Now don't ever waste your tears on someone like him." He tried to sound nonchalant, but terribly failing at it.
I paused, then nodded unsurely. "I'll try."
We got some dinner and got to his home, for another gaming night ofcourse. He said he invited Penelope over to join too, but she declined on the last moment cause she had new fan-fictions to read.
Well, typical Penny.
This time, he didn't start with trash talking cause he knew he would be bad mouthing himself. And so, I decided to let him win just one match cause I was such a good friend.
"Who's the loser now, eh?" He boasted, as if he just won a Nobel prize after years of endless struggles. The bitter truth was, I went easy on him.
"For your kind information, I won thirty matches, and you won one." I pointed it out.
He folded his arms and crossed his legs. "All I'm hearing are excuses. I won, and someone can't digest it." He gazed at me with a smug smirk. My eyes twitched, oh I'm never letting him win another match ever again.
I wasn't having too much energy to fight back though. I gave in. "Whatever you say, winner." I put the controller down on the table and got up, stretching. "I'm going to sleep."
"Go ahead, but spare the living room this time."
"So, I can kick you out of your room?" I raised an eyebrow with a smirk, I'm an expert when it comes to finding loopholes.
"You wanna try me?" He cracked his knuckles with a straight up evil grin, I stepped back with my both hands up in a surrender. This guy does not hold back at all.
He almost broke my wrist (threw me across the room to be precise) in high school on my first and last day of karate club. That was painful as hell.
"Nope, spare me." I smiled cowardly.
He giggled, putting his fists down. "Great. Have a good night." He waved his hand at me. "No promises that I won't draw on your face again, cup noodle."
"Don't you dare."
"Oh, but I do dare." He smirked. Grunting, I paced to a room and got ready for bed. I almost forgot I was going to break up with that guy while being with Henry. Damn it. Maybe tomorrow?
After a little changing into some comfy pajamas, I plopped onto the bed which was as fluffy as a kitten's fur. I rolled onto the bed for a good five minutes before tucking myself in the blankets.
A few knocks on my door startled the crap out of me as I almost fell down the bed. The door opened ajar, and suddenly, fear surged through me. Please don't be who I think it is.
"Sorry for barging in," It was Henry's voice. My body relaxed, it was not him. "But I'm in a bit of a hurry."
"You're going somewhere in the middle of the night?"
"Well, it's not the middle of the night yet. And, work calls." He shrugged sadly, buttoning up his coat and fixing his collar. "Just lock all the doors and stay safe. Alright?"
"Don't worry, no serial killer is after me. So, I'll be alive by the time you come back." I sneered, he weirdly did not seem to get the joke, but was disturbed by it.
"Whatever, just be safe. Good night." He adjusted his tie and closed the door on his way out.
"Good night, Henry." I fell back on the bed, trying to sleep. Even if the bed was comfortable, I couldn't fall asleep. The silence was too loud, ringing in my ear.
Throwing the bedsheets aside, I lazily stood up. There was no way I could sleep when the big ass mansion felt so eerie all of a sudden. So, I descended the stairs and took a look at the book shelves.
I took another book which I thought was interesting and plopped myself on the couch again, kicking my feet and reading the fantasy book, hoping it would help me to fall asleep. But, it didn't at all.
