Xoxo my lovelies, happy reading.

Sameerah quickly gathered herself and fought the urge to wind up her window to cut him off from her but the way he looked at her, determination in his eyes, stopped her in her tracks. She swallowed before she shook her head in response to his question from earlier.

“No, why would I? I’m just in a hurry to get home before Isha.” She said quickly, making sure to meet his eyes. He raised a brow in her direction before leaning on the car next to hers putting a bit of distance between them. The air was no longer as oppressive with the scent of his creed aventus.

“Tell your driver to step out, I have something to discuss with you.” Sameerah sent him a glance but did as he said, asking her driver to go away for a moment. She would have asked him to buy himself some food, but he had repeatedly told her he wasn’t the eat out kind of guy. He loved his wife’s food and made it clear.

“Don’t worry, my Secret service people have cleared this side.” Sameerah nodded and in a split second she opened the car’s door and fully faced him, waiting for him to speak.

“Did I get the grapevine correctly or do you really need a husband?” Sameerah tried very hard to seem uninterested and unaffected but time was running out and nothing she seemed to do worked. Every man she met was looking to fleece her.

“Where did you hear that, Your excellency?” She wanted to know who was talking about her. He chuckled and crossed his legs at the ankles, leaning further on the vehicle behind him.

“The grapevine.” He answered with a grin that made Sameerah’s left eye twitch. How could His Excellency, the governor of Kano state be grinning? “The news is in every circle that matters, Sameerah. You might soon get besieged with offers, seeing as you’re a woman with a lovely pedigree. You can’t fault the boys for trying.” Sameerah scoffed, knowing since she started looking, she had only met with the worst men possible like Jamil from earlier who was looking to be tipped for agreeing to marry her.

“Well, the grapevine hasn’t brought anyone worthy my way, want to throw your hat in the ring?” She said  and He laughed, kicking back his feet as he regained balance.

“You think I’m here to be friends with you? Sameerah? No. I’m here to ask if you’d like to go on date with me, then if I qualify, I would love to, as soon as possible send my elders to your elders and we can finalize this thing and get back to our lives.” His words made her heart kick up a storm and for a moment, she wondered what he was doing it for. Revenge?

“You’re joking.” He stopped staring right at her and raised a brow, the light from the courtyard made sure she could see his face as the night had further darkened as they spoke.

“I would never do that to you. You’d be perfect for First Lady, I get a wife, you get a husband and we move on with life. Easy peasy.” He spread out his hands as he explained as though she was supposed to understand his words as he said them.

“You’re trying to get back at me for that terrible day two weeks ago. I’m sorry, it’s fine it will never happen again.” She said in exasperated wonder while He stared as she spoke.

“Are you like this with your employees? Fleeting, unable to believe when a person is being true to themselves?” His question made her pause to gather her thoughts but the idea of being made fun of, being a laughing stock to the whole of Kano was enough to raise her temper.

“My employees don’t have the capacity to ruin my life with the stroke of a signature, or even this kind of verbal agreement. You can ruin my life and I will not allow it.” After her passions speech, she looked down to see him getting more comfortable in his standing position, which meant he had not walked away yet.

“Go on a date with me. I’ll clear out Gusto tomorrow morning, Sameerah. We’ll have our date in the morning as breakfast, if we can do without killing each other before ten am, I’ll marry you before the year runs out. I don’t want to keep you waiting for much longer. Be careful on your way home.” Sameerah watched as he walked away and her driver returned back to the car in less than a second. He jumped into the car, started it and drove out of the premises.

Sameerah began to tap on Hafsah’s phone number and once the phone rang for about a second, her best friend picked but she heard the sound kids crying in the background and knew this wasn’t a discussion for other the phone so she asked the driver to turn around and go straight to her house.

The door was open when they arrived, and Sameerah walked into the chaotic house with Hanna’s loud wails coming from the living room. Sameerah dropped her handbag and took the little girl in her arms for a moment.

“You’re here?” Her friend asked, with Asiya in a towel in her arms. Sameerah looked around the room to see toys everywhere and food obviously from breakfast on the floor.

“I am, what happened? I could hear Hanna crying from the door.” Hafsah rolled her eyes and sat down with a big sigh.

“My Nanny and housekeeper have fallen sick at the same time. I cannot ask them to continue working when one is vomiting and the other is sniffling catarrh everywhere. Muhammad said he would be home before Maghrib but do you see a glimpse of him? No.”

Sameerah pursed her lips and put Hanna on her back deftly, tying her there firmly with a veil she found flung on the floor. She walked to the kitchen to find a vacuum cleaner but found the sink overflowing with dishes. She shook her head with a smile and went off hand it to her friend. She tackled the dishes as she heard the sound of the vacuum cleaner and soon everywhere was clean again.

“Why are you here this late?” By this time, Hanna was fast asleep on Sameerah’s back so she followed her best friend up the stairs to put the little girl on her princess bed, shut the door gently behind her before saying, with a casualness she knew she didn’t possess.

“Do you know your husband’s friends well?” She made sure to look at Hafsah’s face as she spoke. Hafsah shrugged and said, “I know a few.”

She sent her friend a hot glance, “So that Jamil guy you don’t know him well?” She quietly asked, she was going to demolish her friend for sending her off on a date with a foolish man.

“We’re on the steps now, Sameerah, please take it easy with me. I just took Muhammad’s advice and the man seemed responsible. What did he do?” Sameerah made sure they were seated before she recounted everything that had happened at the date.

“Subhanallah! What a creep? I have never interacted with him much and trusted Muhammad’s judgment on this one.” Hafsah raved and cursed at Jamil, making Sameerah laugh for a few seconds. She opened the paper bag she brought and began wiping the fork they’d given her with the food.

“I’m sorry, Mimi. I would never have let you go out with him if I knew he was a low quality fool.”  Sameerah shrugged as she took a bite of the food she had packed from the restaurant. She had accepted her friend’s apology and that was all there was to it.

Hafsah pushed herself forward and took a bite of the food as well, using a spare fork she found in the brown paper bag the food came in.

“This is some good food.” Sameerah nodded but said nothing, she was wondering how best to break the news to her friend without hearing her scream like a banshee.

“Aminu Rano says he thinks we will be a good match but I said no.” The only sound that filled the room was the sound of the spicy penne pasta with chicken splattering on the tiled floor of Hafsah’s house because she had pushed it.
