Last night was something that's never going to leave my head forever. All I had was pepper spray and he had a gun, I told myself. Trying to suppress the guilt that was eating me alive even if I knew well and good that I would have gotten myself killed if I had intervened.
But that wasn't the worst part. The guilt wasn't as bad as witnessing a guy getting brutally murdered in front of your very own eyes. The blood, I still feel it in my hands. The scream, it still rings in my ear. The fresh metallic smell of blood, is still stuck to the walls of my nose.
I couldn't move. I was frozen, my mouth agape. Not knowing what to do. I unconsciously let my groceries fall and just stared from the corner at the scene, utterly traumatized.
I could have taken a photo as evidence, but oh no, my panicked dumbass straight up called 911 and got out of there. Cause I knew if I had ever got caught by him, I wouldn't be alive here, with Hannah, watching a damn movie like I just didn't witness a guy getting brutally slaughtered last night.
She fell asleep halfway through the movie, half of my money which I spent for her ticket was a hundred percent wasted. But, that wasn't important.
My main goal is to keep her alive and safe for now. Until Penny could find some dirt up his name.
Yes, I called her straight away after Hannah fell asleep like an idiot on the couch. I couldn't help, but throw a blanket over her cause she was literally shuddering in the cold. Penny picked up my call, I told her everything.
"W-Wait, so you're telling me you saw the murder happen?" Penny questioned softly.
"Y-Yes." I stuttered. My hunch was right. Maybe my first theory was wrong, but, my second was absolutely right. Unfortunately.
"Are you okay?" she asked after a pause through the phone.
"No." I mumbled. I was far from being okay. My body was still shaking from before, my breathing still uneven. How do I forget that from my head? How will I ever forgive myself for letting it happen infront of my eyes?
"Okay. There's no time to wait for you to get better. We need to catch Aaron as soon as possible." She seemed in a hurry. I nodded even if she can't see it.
"I'll talk to-" I started.
"No, they won't accept anything without proof, Henry." She interrupted. "One of us should stay with Hannah until the other can find any evidence against him."
She's right. But I'll try in the morning just in case it works. If Hannah's who he's 'protecting', then she can't be left alone.
Plus, she's about to break up with him, which, in my opinion is not going to end up well considering he's a fucking psychopath who murdered...alot of people. And, I don't plan to tell Hannah this until he's in jail.
"I'll find the evidence then." I assumed she's going to stay with her to protect her.
"No, leave that to me." She said. "I can protect myself, but I can't protect myself and her at the same time like you, Henry."
"Are you trying to matchmake us again?" I asked with annoyance. Now was literally not the time.
"No. I'm being serious." her voice did seem like the real deal. So I agreed.
And hence, I'm here, with Hannah in the movie theatre while she's sleeping and wasting my ticket money away. My job today was to accompany her and make sure to keep her away from that murderer until Penny can find something against him.
Heaving a sigh, I watched the boring movie which had literally no plot, but just two people smooching all over the screen. I couldn't have chose a better movie, could I? I mean, I booked the ticket as we walked in the theatre. So, in my defense, I had thirty seconds to choose a movie.
The movie has thankfully came to an end, my eyes couldn't handle more of that crap if there was more. Hannah was still sleeping through the credits, stray hair strands all over her face as she softly breathed with her mouth open just slightly.
It still made me wonder how almost twenty people fell for her within just a month. Maybe its her personality. Or maybe her cute looks. Or maybe how innocent and sweet she is. Okay, I should probably stop.
I woke her up and dragged her out of the theater. "Good morning. Slept well?" I asked her sarcastically and let go of her hand.
She nodded, her eyelids about to close on her any second. "Mmhm."
"Great. What do you want to do next?" I slid my hands into my pocket, scanning the entire surroundings while on high alert. I'm here with her to guard her afterall, not to have fun. I'll just make sure she doesn't try to contact Aaron or run into that psycho.
There was no reply. I turned around to see her sleeping while standing like a log. Wrapping one of my arm around her shoulder, I guided the sleeping idiot to my car and made her sit in the front seat with the seatbelt on.
I lightly tapped her arm, she slowly stirred awake. "What? What happened to Judy?" She rubbed her eyes and looked around.
"She lived happily ever after while you were sleeping like a bear in hibernation." I sang in a sing-song sarcastically while she looked hella confused.
"The movie's over?" She frowned.
"Don't worry, you didn't miss anything good." I shrugged. To be honest, the movie was absolute crap. "Except the popcorn." I added at the end.
She let out a heavy sigh and leaned back on the seat. I started the car and gently slammed the accelerator. "Where do you want to go?" I asked her, my eyes glued to the trafficked road.
"Seriously, don't you have work to do?" She questioned as if I was running away from working on the case.
"It can wait." I lied, I was doing this for the case. I mean, not exactly. I was doing this to keep her alive. Away from that psychopath. "And someone's gotta cheer you up from that breakup."
"I am the one who's going to break up with him. Not him."
"Yeah, that's why you were crying even at the mention of him." I realized what I said was a bit too insensitive a little too late. She went quiet. Shit. "H-Hey, I'm just trying to make you forget him." I tried to cheer her back up.
She didn't answer back.
"Hannah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that." I sighed. Her crying over that useless piece of garbage was just purely infuriating. Then, a big Ferris wheel sticking out in the sky caught my eye. It was a fun-fair. "I'm sorry." I mumbled again mindlessly, she would love to go to the fair.
"Do you want to go to the fair?"
"The fair?" She glanced at my side and looked at the same sight as me. We used to enjoy these once-in-a-time fairs when we were teenagers. She would cheer up there. "I haven't been to a fair in awhile."
"Great, I'm taking you there then." I said in a matter-of-factly. "You better forget that guy while you're at it." I added, this would make her stop questioning why I'm 'bunking' work. And, I really did want her to forget that guy and be happy again.
Stepping in the fun-fair, all the old memories flooded back to me, like how she would force me to ride the Ferris wheel or the rollercoaster with her and I would be at the verge of screaming 'I'M DYING!' cause I was and am still hella scared of heights.
Thankfully she didn't force me to do all that this time, she's grown up afterall. And she did seem happier. While teasing me cause I refused to ride any thrilling rides with her.
I was most focused on making sure everything was clear anyways, I was here to do my job, not have fun. But, I was having fun. And I couldn't refuse that, I was letting my guard way down around her.
