CHAPTER SEVEN
Ruby
Halloween
Olivia shouldn't have gone into the fridge at that party. We shouldn't have gone to the party. But that guy throwing the party shouldn't have been dressed like a Freeridge Santo.
His blue eyes glowing under his black flat rimmed hat and the stupid teardrop tattoo he had drawn on his face with makeup. His blonde hair peeking out from under the hat and the fake chain and cross. It looked like the party store version of the one Alana wears.
When that kid got in our faces I'll admit I pussied out. I didn't know how to handle it. And I couldn't defend Olivia the way I should have. She was ballsy though; I'll give her that. It made me want her even more.
She wanted to crash the party and we did. Well, we crashed it for sure. Just when I thought we were the cool kids at the party we weren't. We were just a sideshow attraction to these rich ass Brentwood cunts.
Alana warned me earlier to be careful. She warned Olivia too. But did I listen? No. I felt stupid having to text her when shit got bad. When Olivia started running her mouth and that want to be cholo started firing back.
"Control your bitch." He said as he grabbed me by my collar. "Ain't so tough now, huh?"
I looked to Cesar for help.
Cesar stood up quickly and then we just left. But as we ran out... They started egging us and calling us trash. Just because we're from Freeridge and not Brentwood like them. I didn't know what else to do but to text my sister.
At the same moment, Cesar looked at me and said, "It's handled."
We walked up the street and waited when I saw Oscar's Red Impala pull up. Alana sitting in the front seat with the same pissed off face as Oscar. Cesar walked up to Oscar's window and I walked up to Alana's.
"Which house?" She asked and I looked down at her hip. She was strapped. Alana saw me looking and she didn't even make an attempt to hide it. "Ruby, tell me. Which house?"
Silently I pointed to the house down the street that was all lit up and had people flowing in and out. Cesar walked up and Oscar drove slowly behind him. I decided to not let Cesar go alone so I followed at his side. Not behind him.
The want to be cholo walked up to us and pretended to be tough again in front of his friends. "You think you're tough now? You want to play this game? Come back for more?" He laughed loudly and stood with his hands in his pockets, leaning back slightly on his heels.
"Nah," Cesar said. "I don't think I'm tough."
"Neither do I." I added and matched the energy of this guy standing in front of me. Rocking on my heels and putting my hands in my pockets. Looking at him and nodding slightly. Flickering my eyes at him and glaring.
His glare met with mine and then he laughed loudly.
"So you came back to prove you're a bunch of pussies?" He laughed.
"Nah, we came back to show you that we aren't tough. But they are." Cesar turned around and looked over his shoulder. Oscar pulled up and both him and Alana jumped out of the car. Oscar slamming the door so hard the door didn't even stay closed. It just bounced off the frame and opened again.
Alana walked up in her sweats and tank top with her chain glistening in the moonlight and bouncing off her chest with her piece on perfect vision. I looked with a grin as everyone else took a step back and gasped.
