Saera laid naked in bed with Jacaerys, her skin was bare beneath the sheets, her body curled gently against Jacaerys, who rested with his head on her growing belly, his hand splayed protectively over it.
She smiled down at him, brushing her fingers through his tousled curls. "You're going to be a wonderful father."
Jacaerys glanced up, one brow raised, a half-grin tugging at his lips. "You think so?"
Saera nodded, her smile unwavering. "I know so."
He exhaled slowly, his gaze drifting from her eyes back to the gentle swell of her stomach. "It still doesn't feel real sometimes," he murmured. "That there's a little life growing inside you... ours."
Saera covered his hand with her own, their fingers intertwining over her belly. "It's real," she whispered. "And whatever comes, we'll face it side by side."
"But what if I fail?" Jacaerys' voice was low, uncertain. "What if I make the wrong choices, or... become the kind of father I swore I'd never be?"
"You won't," she said softly, her thumb brushing along his cheek. "You already care so deeply—that's more than many children ever receive. Love is the strongest foundation we can give them."
He closed his eyes for a moment, soaking in her words, and when he opened them again, his expression had softened. "I want to teach our child everything I've learned—about honor, about strength... about how to be good in a world that often isn't."
Saera leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead, her voice warm like honey. "And they'll learn all of that and more, because they'll have you as their father. And me," she added with a teasing grin, "to keep you in line."
Jacaerys chuckled, the sound easing the tension between them. "Gods help this child if they inherit your stubbornness."
"Or yours," she teased back. Then, with a softer breath: "Just imagine the life we'll give them. The stories we'll tell, the joy we'll share. The way this place will echo with laughter again."
