it had been two weeks since sienna had seen matt, and the ache in her chest hadn't dulled.

she busied herself with work, her friends, and anything else that might distract her from the echo of his parting words or the way his hands had lingered on her waist that night.

but today, she had a new focus—picking up parker, her perpetually grumpy persian cat, from her parents' house.

it felt like a simple errand, but even this task couldn't escape the shadow of natt.

the late afternoon sun cast long shadows as sienna pulled into her parents' driveway.

rosalie was on the porch, sipping tea and waving cheerfully. parker was nowhere to be seen, which wasn't surprising; he preferred hiding until coaxed out.

"sienna, hun! you look lovely. how have you been?" rosalie asked, pulling her into a warm hug as she climbed the steps.

"i'm good. busy, as usual, how are you mom?" sienna asked while stepping inside and shrugging off her coat.

"i'm good honey" her mom answered

the familiar smell of cinnamon and fresh bread enveloped her. "thanks for keeping parker. i hope he wasn't too much trouble, i know how he gets"

rosalie chuckled. "oh, he's a diva, but nothing i can't handle. he spent most of his time glaring at me from the windowsill. speaking of which..." she gestured toward the living room, where parker was perched, his tail flicking in mild annoyance.

sienna crouched by the window. "hey, buddy," she cooed. parker shot her a disdainful look but eventually deigned to let her scratch behind his ears. "i missed you too."
