Maybe I was the troublemaker between us.

"Alright, Weirdo, I'm going to bed," he got up off the couch, making my eyes snap open to find him with a grin as I glared at him for the nickname.

I watched as he wandered upstairs, Simon following after him, the little gray tabby cat's pink collar jingling up the steps. My eyes shifted around the now quiet house, our new home.

Moving had become as natural as tying a shoe — the same process over and over — but it had been two years since the last time. Two years and it just took one night for me to fuck it all up.

"You look like a zombie," I commented as Conner came sauntering down the stairs. He didn't even bother glancing my way as he flipped me off and wandered to the cabinet above the fridge to grab pills for his obvious hangover.

I just snickered at his misery and he sighs, "Can you leave the teasing until after it doesn't feel like someone's playing drums inside my head?"

My lips parted but I didn't get to say anything before the front door swung open. My gut instantly dropped as Jason came into view, a glare taking his face the moment he saw us, "Two days."

"I'm just gonna..." Conner starts to wander for the stairs but I grabbed the back of his shirt, making him choke a bit.

"If I'm going down, you're going down with me," I grinned at him. He groans before moving back to his spot at the counter and looking at Jason who did not look pleased.

"One of you mind explaining what happened last night?"

I opened my mouth and Conner instantly smacked his hand over it. I rolled my eyes, grabbing his wrist and twisting it, causing his body to shift as he swore in pain. "We went out in the middle of the night and had some teenage fun before outrunning the cops," I grinned at Jason, releasing my hold.

Conner rubbed his wrist before narrowing his eyes at me, "Seriously?! That was worse than what I thought you were going to say!"

Jason seemed to almost have steam coming out of his ears but as he opened his mouth to lecture us, Ava came wandering down, "Don't worry, they've already been scolded."

"Clearly not enough," Jason mutters, shooting me a glare. I gave him a big toothy grin in response, gaining me a low growl.

"I'm pretty sure they'll regret it after today," she states, making my gaze snap to her as she slaps down a piece of paper. She grinned as though the tiny, thin piece of wood was supposed to be scary. "A list of things the two of you will be getting done today as punishment for last night."

I rolled my eyes but Conner whined, "But I'm hungover. Can't this wait until tomorrow?" She shakes her head and he sighs, letting his head fall against the cool surface of the counter.

She gives him a look before focusing back on the paper, "Anyway, you two will be cleaning the house and unpacking anything that still needs to be."

"Sounds easy enough to me," I shrugged and the look Conner gave me made a sadistic laugh leave my lips.

"On top of that," she continued, taking out a pen and Conner groaned. I couldn't hold it and burst out laughing until Ava spoke again, silencing me, "Ashley, can work on cleaning up the backyard."

My jaw dropped and Conner snickered a bit, "That's not fair. It looks terrible. It'd be easier to just run a bulldozer through there and start from scratch."

She gives me a look for my dramatics, "Do I need to add more?"

"No," I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest.
