"Anyway, what is this?" Vi asks, now addressing the enforcers. "Random search? Escort off the property? Or are you just here to waste our time?"
"Search? No, no, no. You're both something of a legend amongst enforcers." Maddie begins as Vi takes a swig from a new bottle. "Caitlyn made quite a scene at the station when they tried to deny your enlistments. Now, I have to ask, is it all true? You both went after Silco alone after the council didn't back you? Took on his whole gang?"
"Cait said all that?" Vi asks with a guilt ridden face.
"She said; if every enforcers had a heart like either if yours, we could take on Noxus itself. Then she threatened to withdraw her family's funding. Anyhow, I'm glad you're joining up. After the sherif betrayed us... well, let's just say its nice to know there's still good ones left." She explains with the most genuine smile I have seen on anyone's face in a while.
She holds her hand out to Vi who shakes it firmly before she does the same to me. I stare for a second slightly shocked, I know she was talking about the two of us but I'm quite used to being the lesser known of our pair. I smile lightly and shake it gently.
Her name is called from a distance as a melancholy fanfair plays and she begins to walk away. "Duty calls. A real honour, Vi, Brandy."
We nod as she walks away. I watch her figure get smaller and smaller as my stomach twists in guilt. I can never bring myself to put on that uniform. There are still good ones left, like Maddie said, but I can't even imagine myself holding a badge and being somewhat ok with it. I can imagine Vi considering it, which of course I don't mind, she can do as she pleases. But I'm more worried on how it would effect her without her realising.
"Vi?"
"You can't put on the badge, can you?"
"I can't even imagine myself holding it... but I think you can."
"I have to make this right. I have to help."
"You can... but I can't go with you. Not dressed in blue."
"I'll speak with Cait... when I get the chance."
"Good. You should do as your heart tells you."
"What will you do? I don't think Mr Kiramman will let you stay."
"I might speak with Jayce, not seen him in a while. After the ceremony, I could try and catch him."
"Speaking of which, we should set off." Vi says, shaking the leg of the man from last night. He pretends to still be asleep so I push his foot off the ledge we are sitting on and stand. I help my girlfriend up and I wrap an arm around her waist to steady her as she's still quite drunk.
I call back to the man, telling him to join us when he feels like getting up as we walk through the yellow painted Piltover. Despite the small degree of hate I still feel about this place, I cannot deny its beauty. With the melancholic fanfair still sounding in the distance, I help Vi wonder on down to the memorial.
The crowds we follow are quiet and solemn, mourning the loss of their once great leaders. The long walk is slow and sorrowful as we bow our heads in respect. As we approach the entrance, a small group of enforcers stops us and pats us down. I wince as they remove my daggers from my person, I can't help that I just have them on me all the time. When they let us through, I look back to see the man from before just behind us.
