At first, he watched her take a seat aagain, but it seemed like she realized how much she had been trespassing so she packed her luggage looking bag and strode out of the room, only the scent of the sandwich she had been eating so heartily left behind.
"No wonder she's not married, who will marry that Ice Queen? She could not even apologize!" Aminu raised a brow at Ladi's ranting and tuned him out, still looking at the now empty doorway manned by his security men. She was perfect for first lady, unmarried and didn't think he hung the stars, he definitely needed her.
"Your excellency. You're not listening to me." Aminu turned to look at his deputy chief of staff who took on the role of his secretary and went everywhere with him. When he newly became governor, Ladi was pressed down by his chief of staff, only left to run little errands like newspaper runs. His Chief of Staff had been appointed as a favor to his mentor so he could not really scold him, he had to take Ladi seriously and the rest of the staff took him seriously as well. Ladi had just one problem, he got angry quickly and yapped like a little boy.
His thoughts got interrupted once more and he leaned back into the comfortable leather chair to listen to Ladi speak. Soon, someone from the convention team came over that the guests were seated and he could now proceed. Aminu sent a grateful glance to the sky for successfully saving his ears from a full blown talking session. Ladi knew every and anything about anyone and he was always willing to volunteer information to him at all times.
As he stepped into the hall, everyone stood up and Aminu wondered how he had gone from being shy and hesitant at all the attention he got to accepting it and almost even reveling in it. He walked to his seat and took two sides of his blue babbanriga and clasped them together as he took his seat. To his right, sat a special adviser to the president whom he greeted heartily before focusing on what the MC was saying.
"For the first panel of the morning, your excellencies, we will be graced with the presence of the CEO of SaAd food co, Sameerah Yusuf Bebeji," The crowd burst into a loud applause and Aminu watched as the cold, sharp woman from earlier adjusted her veil and walked to the podium, iPad in hand. She took her seat and waited for the seats beside her to fill up.
Aminu watched her, but watched his environment. He knew as Governor, his every move was carefully watched, especially now that content creators could take one interaction and turn into an explosive piece of news, he had to be careful but he wanted to watch the woman who had been so scathing earlier.
"We cannot have food sufficiency if our deserts are still underutilized. Studies everywhere there's a desert have shown that reclamation helps increase the amount of farmland and even increase afforestation. We complain of the heat, of flooding and pollution but what has the government done to ease our climate change crisis?" Aminu raised a brow but took a pen from his front pocket and the program of events from the table beside him and penned down his thoughts on reclaiming desert lands.
"Ms Bebeji, you talk like your company doesn't import at least eighty percent of its wheat. We know the government. Especially the Kano state government is doing so abysmally at wheat planting." Aminu happened to raise his head at that point and he saw the fire she had shown earlier as she trained her gaze on the man who had asked the question.
"Your deduction is laughable. Especially as you know that when our company wanted to begin the return into the pasta market, we carefully asked around for wheat farmers in Nigeria and we reached out to over thirty, gave them landing costs and seeds. What did we get in return?" The room was quieter than it was earlier because though they had veered away from the topic, Aminu knew that she had just stood up for him in her little twisted way and he was grateful.
