My eyes were drowsy, almost shutting on me. I don't blame them, I have been staring at my office monitor for the whole day cause I ignored all my e-mails on Sunday and now, I had to work on the errors they were listing plus my work for today.
Averting my gaze to bottom right, I lazily read the time. My shift was almost over. One more minute to go, which I decided to use to shut this damn thing down.
My phone pinged. 'Hey, girl friend! Come to your favourite cafe after you're done with your work. Alright? Let's hang out.'
I smiled and replied with, 'Okay, Penny. See you there.'
After my monitor had shut down, I packed up my handbag to go home and freshen up. I paced to the elevator and took it to the ground floor, where Aaron would be waiting for me as usual in his car. His shift gets over almost at the same time as mine, so, he picks me up daily.
"Hey babe. How was today?" He smiled through the windshield. I shook my head and got in the front seat.
"Stressful." I blurted out, heaving a sigh. If only I could have chased my dream when I was young, I had sadly listened to my parents and ended up in this boring job instead of writing what runs in my head into a book like I have always dreamt of.
"Hello? Earth to the most cute girl ever?"
I flinched, then let out a weary sigh. "Sorry. Did you say something?"
He slammed the breaks gently, we were home already. "Nevermind. I was just wondering what goes in my little cutie's head." He narrowed his eyes, for which I gave a little eye roll with a smile.
"Nothing in perticular," I replied, even if I knew the true answer was 'regrets'. I got off the car, stretching my arms wide, there were two painful cracks, then relief.
He unlocked the door, I strode in lazily. After throwing my handbag into the couch, I threw in a fresh casual outfit. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like last time...
I felt a pair of eyes watching me.
"Are you going somewhere?"
I stood mid-way while throwing my hair in a ponytail, turning to face him. "Yes. Out with my friends!" I smiled cheerfully, he did not seem to seem as happy as me though. "Do you want to come along?" I asked.
He blinked. "Really?"
"You're my boyfriend, ofcourse you can join, Aaron." I finished my ponytail, looking here and there to find anything I could have probably forgotten. My handbag was as loaded up as before, so, I ended up packing my small purse to go out.
"If you insist, babe." He said, which seemed a bit forced.
"Are you sure you want to join? I'm not forcing you." I made it clear.
He beamed a smile. "I just want to be with you, so, I'm happy to join you, my love."
L-Love? Now that's a new nickname. Fake coughing in an attempt to hide my embarrassment, I read a few new notifications my phone pinged at.
Henry the idiot : I still have your car, so, I'll be kind just this once to drop you. Be quick.
Oh shit.
I mean...they will still meet eachother in the cafe. So, I suppose I can't avoid it either way. I quickly typed back the reply.
Me : Aaron is also coming, so, be ready to meet him.
The reply was quite quick.
Henry the idiot : Ready for what? We're not gonna murder eachother, idiot :/
Me : You better get along.
Henry the idiot : We're gonna be best buds :)
I stuffed my phone into my little purse and slipped into my heels. Aaron, beside me, was tying up his shoelaces. "Ready?" I twisted the doorknob.
"Yeah, let's have fun, babe." He answered, following me behind outside to see my car standing in the doorway with Henry inside the car. "Him?" He eyed me, then him.
"He's Henry, my friend." I quickly answered, tugging his sleeve to make him walk upto my car, but he wouldn't budge. "Come on Aaron, I told you we're going out with my friends!"
He gave in grumpily, making me sit behind alongside with him in the car. Henry started driving. I usually sit in the front, but, I suppose he wants to sit with me. "So, what's your name?" Henry asked casually even if I have mentioned it before. Probably first step to become friends, so, I'll allow it.
"None of your damn business." Aaron answered nochalantly, looking out of the window. I roughly nudged him, but it seems pretty ineffective.
"Sorry, I don't know why he is-" I tried to explain Henry, but got interrupted.
"I know what you are trying to do, Henry." Aaron's gaze met Henry's through the rear view mirror. "Stay away from what's mine." His voice was weirdly lacking warmth.
Henry's the most easiest person to get annoyed, and it was surely a hundred percent right. "She's just a friend to me, Aaron. Are there any rules that she can't be friends with anyone who are from the opposite gender?"
"Oh, so you do know my name."
I was trying to make the two quiet down as the two argued pointlessly, but I was keeping my voice low in an attempt to keep the atmosphere light and cheerful. But, I have had enough. "WILL YOU TWO SHUT UP?" I yelled, glaring daggers at both of them.
Peaceful silence.
Finally.
"Sorry." The two said in union. My hope that my bestfriend and my boyfriend would get along, had disappeared into the thin air. These two became enemies after just one damn conversation.
We arrived at the cafe, I was furiously searching for my girl friend. The moment I saw her was honestly the moment I felt relief. These two had stressed me out the whole car ride. Tsk.
Before I could rush to her and hug her, she made it to me first and squished me. "GIRL FRIEND!" she screamed in my ear, immediately hyping my mood up.
The two guys followed shortly behind. They were glaring at eachother, as if they would kill eachother off any moment. Gosh, what's with all this tension?
"Y'know, girl friend, there's a new fashion store there," she pointed at a shop not too far away, her eyes glimmering. "Why don't we check it out? I swear it'll be fun!"
"Sure, why not." I shrugged.
Penny turned to the boys, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "You two wait inside the cafe, we'll be quick, we promise!"
She grabbed my arm and pulled me to the store, which, knowing how she is, was definitely not going to be a quick tour.
