She caught herself on the wall, mumbling "I gotta find Erik."
And she did find Erik. She stumbled upon him and Craig dancing.
"Please can we go home?" She slurred slightly, her arm lazily looping through his.
He looked down at her. There were two of her. He giggled.
"Yeah. Cmon."
They walked out, leaving Lyle behind. They had their arms wrapped around each other as they stumbled down the street.
When they ended up at Roses house, it began the same way the previous night had.
She was pawing at his shirt, desperately trying to get it off of him. He let her, but soon regretted it as her hands traveled over his chest as she kissed him.
"Rose," He said, suddenly uncomfortable. She pulled away, looking up at him.
"I'm sorry. I can't."
Rose looked disappointed, but nodded in understanding.
They repeated the same pattern from the night before. They got into bed, but this time they both layed on their backs, staring up at the ceiling.
Finally, Rose spoke.
"I'm not mad you don't want to, but why? We've been dating for two years and we're adults, you know? I mean, isn't this normal?"
Erik felt tears build up in his waterline. His throat burned.
"I..."
Roses head turned towards him. He gulped nervously, trying to stop the words from flowing out of his mouth.
"Can we talk about it tomorrow?"
"Yeah." She said softly, scooting closer to him.
He rested his head ontop of hers, rapidly blinking away the tears threatening to spill.
"I love you. I'm not mad." She assured him.
He nodded before whispering "I love you too."
Rose fell asleep rather quickly. Erik was up practically all night. He loved Rose. He could tell her. He had already gotten the courage to tell Lyle. He knew he trusted her.
The next day, the two sat outside in the lawn chairs. Erik opened up about everything. His mom, his dad. What they did and do to him.
Rose cried. And Erik was trying to be strong. He tried keeping it together. But once his voice cracked and his chin wobbled, he just exploded into tears.
He could barely get anything else out. Rose began crying with him. She hugged him so tight it physically hurt him. But it was so comforting.
"I'm so sorry. Erik, I'm so sorry. I love you. You're so strong." He nodded, sniffling.
"You can't tell anyone. Lyle knows but you can't say anything."
"I won't. I swear."
And not even moments later, Lyle called Erik to tell him to come home. And Erik and Rose cried more. She fought with him to stay.
"I got this, okay?" He said to her, kissing her as walked away.
Anger fueled Rose once he left. She ran back outside, and turned her ball machine to the highest setting.
She held her racket out, anger bubbling in her.
The ball came flying at her, hard and fast. With a loud grunt, it flew back over.
So many thoughts raced through her head.
How come she never noticed? Why did she not notice? What monster would do that to their children?
She pelted the balls over and over again until her racket literally broke from the force. It splintered in the middle, the wire having a ball shaped hole in it.
She threw the racket down. It clattered on the clay. Her arms were sore. The inside of her palms were blistered from the racket. She panted, anger and hatred still inside of her. Swear was covering her entire body. But she couldn't stop.
She grabbed another racket. She kept going.
By the time the sun had went down, she had broke through four rackets. Her plans were streaked with blood and were burning.
Rose stormed inside, racing past her mother and sister.
They shared a look as she raced by.
