THE CALM BETWEEN STORMS
February 1930
The night was cool, and the streets were unusually quiet, but Elisabeth's territory buzzed with the tension of impending action.
Her trusted man, Martin, stood beside her, flanked by several members of her empire. They had gathered in one of her hidden safe houses, a place known only to those loyal to her cause.
Elisabeth's expression was composed. Word had reached her of a rival group encroaching on her turf, and she had no intention of standing idle.
As the meeting progressed, Elisabeth laid out her plan with the kind of calculated precision she was known for.
Her voice was low and deliberate. "We are going to strike tonight," she declared, her eyes gleaming with determination. "I have had enough of their interference. We will crush them before they can advance any further."
Martin, ever the voice of reason, stepped forward cautiously. "Boss, if I may interject, there is no sense in you getting involved directly. Let us handle this."
Elisabeth's jaw tightened at his suggestion. "I can hold my own in a fight, Martin. Surely, you know that."
"Boss, I know you are not one to shy away from a fight, and no one doubts your strength. But you remember what Mr. Ashford said, do you not? He is right. Your talents are better used in guiding us. If you charge in headfirst, it risks everything you've built. We are trained for this, but none of us have your knack for strategy."
Elisabeth's eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of her husband's words, but Martin pressed on.
"You have proven yourself in battle, no doubt. But you have a family now. Jackie always says, 'Your strength is in your mind, not just your fists.' You have prepared us for this very reason. Let us be the ones to fight. You pull the strings from the shadows."
The others nodded solemnly, their loyalty to Elisabeth clear in their expressions.
They were ready for combat, but they understood the importance of her leadership.
Elisabeth could feel their trust weighing on her. As much as she hated it, Martin was right.
She exhaled slowly and then nodded. "Fine. I will stay behind. But I expect each of you to follow my orders without deviation. No unnecessary risks, no mistakes."
Martin bowed his head slightly in acknowledgment. "We will not fail you, Boss. You have my word."
Elisabeth watched them as they prepared to leave, her mind restless with the urge to be at the forefront.
