You leaned against the frame of the house as your Grandpa helped Liz load up the last of her luggage. It wasn't much, but it was enough for her. You and your Grandma watched from the porch where Courage was currently practicing with his yo-yo. The grind never ends.

In the end, Liz decided to take up the apprenticeship under the Professor. The drive there was about three hours, but the area was safe and the plan was simple. Liz would go on ahead, get on her own two feet, and you would stay here and stay out of trouble. See? Simple.

Liz looked back to you and sighed. She was a bit uneasy about leaving you behind like this, but Drew ended up being right in that you were completely supportive of Liz's new venture. You wanted her to succeed after all.

With her part of the inheritance she was able to find a nice place in the suburbs. She'd never lived in a neighborhood before. Could be neat.

Liz: Buster.

She walked over to you and gave you a hug. You returned the gesture and Liz closed her eyes. You couldn't go with her since you needed to go to school. You had decided to go after all. Something that both surpised and slightly worried Liz. But you were a tough kid. You could pull through.

Liz: I love you, twerp.

Y/N: Yeah. Love you to.

You both separated and Liz turned to Courage. She smiled once again and petted the pink dog who's tail began to wag.

Liz: Take care of him for me, 'Kay?

Courage nodded and gave a faithful salute. He then gave Liz her parting gift which was a gift card to Mr. Smoothy. Liz and your Grandma shared a knowing and understanding look before Liz headed back to the truck. You watched as she got in, feeling a knot in your stomach. As the truck vanished into the rising sun, you took a deep breath.

Six months. In six months you will be living together again.

But for now, you had to manage things alone.

You fiddled with your backpack strap as you walked through the halls of your new school. Everything went wrong the moment you stepped through the front doors. You quickly realized three things.

1.) You were smaller than most of the kids. Especially the ones in your grade. You felt like an actual child next to them.

2.) You...stood out. With your dull eye and scars, you quickly found judging glances coming your way.

3.) Everyone knew.

Student: Hey isn't the grandson of those people who just lost their son?

Student: They must've been his parents. So sad.

Student: A bit weird though. Why is he so short?

Student: An orphan and a late bloomer? Poor kid.

Student: He definitely has some guts coming back to school like this.

You tried to ignore them, but they were everywhere. The voices. They were echoing in your ear. Even the tiniest of whispers didn't go unheard. When your ears began to ring, you ducked into the nearest restroom and hurried into a stall.
