Once school ended, Kiara, Brooklynn, JJ and Pope met up by the north drain's gully. Their plan was to hopefully find the gun Rafe used to kill Peterkin with mixed into the trash.
"Okay. So this is the north drain. The gun should've gotten washed into the gully. If it got flushed out from the drain, it would've been pushed out to like..." JJ explained.
"Somewhere in this trash," Pope finished for him, gesturing to the ditch filled with trash before them.
"Correct," JJ nodded.
"Oh my god," Kiara sighed, "People who use plastic should be shot."
"A little far, Kie," Brooklynn told the girl.
"They're killing the turtles, Brook," Kiara retorted.
"Okay, personally, I love plastic," JJ interrupted the bickering females, "Use it every day. Love the stuff."
"Hopefully you recycle it and don't just let it flush into the ocean," Kiara said.
"I thought you'd say something like that so I brought trash bags!" Pope said with a proud smile on his face, pulling out a box of trash bags from his backpack.
Brooklynn and JJ looked at each other with small grins growing on their face.
"Did you just proactively protect the environment?" Kiara asked, blushing.
"Maybe," Pope shrugged, still wearing the same smile on his face.
Pope began to pass out trash bags as Kiara pressed herself to stop blushing.
"You want us to leave you two alone or..?" JJ asked.
Pope rolled his eyes, "Just go pick up the trash."
Brooklynn pulled off her sandals and stepped into the ditch, collecting trash with the bag Pope gave to her.
The other three Pogues followed suit, JJ gagging at the smell of the sewer behind them.
"So, um, Brook, Shoupe said you sent in a statement yesterday?" Kiara said.
"Well, Ward and Rafe both knew I was there, so Shoupe made me send in a statement," Brooklynn shortly explained.
"So why do they still think it was John B when they had the statement from you?" Pope asked.
Brooklynn's heart dropped in guilt, "I-I didn't tell him it was Rafe."
"What?!" Kiara shrieked, standing up and dropping her trash bag.
"Chill, Kie," JJ told her.
"Are you kidding me right now?" Kiara yelled to JJ.
"Just let her explain," Pope said.
"Thank you," Brooklynn thanked Pope shortly before turning to Kiara, "I didn't say John B did it either."
