Y/N and Akaashi had been spending more time together lately, though Y/N was still trying her best to avoid getting caught by Eri. Every time she saw even a glimpse of Eri's hair from a distance, she ducked behind Akaashi or hid in a nearby corner. Akaashi, on the other hand, was always composed, politely declining every offer Eri threw at him, but he could tell things were reaching a boiling point.
One particular day during volleyball practice, the gym was buzzing with energy as Bokuto boomed his usual motivational shouts. Everything seemed normal until, suddenly, Eri walked in. The atmosphere shifted as the volleyball team, who had grown quite familiar with the tension, exchanged glances. Everyone knew this was the moment: Eri was about to make her move.
"Can I talk to you privately, Akaashi-kun?" Eri's voice rang out, full of determination but with a hint of nerves.
Akaashi nodded politely, excusing himself from the court. As they headed outside the gym, he briefly glanced toward the art room's window. Thankfully, Y/N's not there right now... this could get messy if she saw.
Back in the gym, the volleyball team and the manager were not about to let this conversation slip by unnoticed. Bokuto, Konoha, and the others huddled together like a pack of mischievous kids, determined to eavesdrop.
"We need to know what happens!" Bokuto whispered, unusually hushed for once.
"Shh, quiet!" Konoha waved a hand, trying to hear better as they pressed against the gym wall.
Outside, Akaashi stood calmly, waiting for Eri to speak. She hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and blurted out, "Akaashi-kun, I... I like you. I've liked you for a while now."
Akaashi was silent, his expression thoughtful, but not surprised. The air between them was thick with tension. He took a moment before replying, his voice steady. "Thank you, Eri-san, but... I don't feel the same way."
Eri blinked, clearly caught off guard by his calm rejection. She swallowed, her voice rising as she snapped, "Is it Y/N? Do you like her? What do you even see in her?"
Akaashi paused for a beat, choosing his words carefully. "Y/N... she's kind, thoughtful, and genuine. I've realized I like her, and I hope you can understand."
The gym's hidden audience was holding their breath at this point. Bokuto's eyes widened, and he gripped Konoha's arm, trying not to squeal like an overexcited fangirl.
Eri's face fell, but after a few moments of tense silence, she exhaled and nodded. "I see... I was just hoping—" She stopped, realizing there was no point in continuing. "I understand. I'm sorry for bothering you." She gave a small, defeated bow before walking away, leaving Akaashi to sigh and rub the back of his head.
That was exhausting, Akaashi thought, grateful it was over. Before he could fully relax, though, a chorus of cheers erupted from behind a nearby bush.
"YOU DID IT, AKAASHI!" Bokuto practically burst out, followed by the entire volleyball team who had been spying the whole time.
Konoha patted him on the back with a sly grin. "Way to be smooth, Akaashi. Now you're free to go for Y/N."
Akaashi raised an eyebrow at his teammates but couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. "You all are unbelievable."

Later that day, Y/N was finishing up her cleaning duties and made her way to the art room, ready to start working on a new painting. She had been working on one of Akaashi, though she hadn't told him about it yet. It felt a little embarrassing to even think about telling him.
She set her supplies down and took a deep breath, feeling the calm of the room settle her nerves. Just as she was about to start painting, the door to the art room suddenly burst open.
Y/N jumped, nearly dropping her brush. "Ah!"
Akaashi stood in the doorway, looking a little out of breath, as if he had come straight from practice. "Sorry, did I scare you?"
Y/N blinked in surprise, trying to gather her thoughts. "N-no, I just wasn't expecting anyone." She set her brush down carefully, her heart pounding. Why is he here? Did something happen?
They had a small, slightly awkward chat, Akaashi making polite conversation while Y/N tried to figure out why he seemed a little tense. After a moment, he cleared his throat.
"Y/N," Akaashi began, his voice softer than usual. "There's something I need to tell you."
Y/N's mind immediately started racing. Oh no... what is it now? She tried to steady her voice. "W-what is it?"
Akaashi took a breath before dropping the bombshell. "Eri confessed to me earlier today."
Y/N froze. "Oh..."
He waited for her to say more, but when she didn't, he continued. "I rejected her."
Y/N blinked, startled. "You did?"
Akaashi nodded. "Yes. I told her there's someone else I like."
Her mind raced. Someone else? She swallowed, her voice barely a whisper. "Who... who is it?"
There was a long pause. Akaashi took a step closer, then another, until he was standing right in front of her. Slowly, almost hesitantly, he reached for her hands, gently holding them in his own.
"It's you, Y/N."
Y/N's breath hitched, her face turning bright red as she stared up at him, completely stunned. Did he just—?
Akaashi smiled softly at her reaction. "I've liked you for a while now. I just... didn't realize it until recently."
Y/N was too stunned to speak, her mind swirling in a chaotic mess of thoughts. She opened her mouth, trying to say something, anything, but her brain refused to cooperate. Instead, she blurted out, "I-I like you too!"
Both of them froze, and then Akaashi chuckled, his usual calm demeanor breaking into a warm smile. "I'm glad."
Y/N's face was on fire, her entire body feeling like it might melt from embarrassment, but she managed to give him a shy smile in return. Did I... just confess too?
Akaashi squeezed her hands gently. "Then... let's go at our own pace, okay?"
She nodded, her heart full of warmth and joy. "Yeah... I'd like that."
As they stood there, holding hands, the awkwardness slowly melted away, leaving behind a comfortable silence. It wasn't a grand, dramatic confession, but for Y/N and Akaashi, it was perfect.
