The aftermath of Mina's Seven Minutes in Heaven dare rippled through the camp like a wave. As you and Todoroki returned to the circle, you could feel every eye on the two of you, but no one said anything immediately. Mina, of course, had the biggest grin on her face, barely containing her excitement.
"Well?" she prodded, leaning forward eagerly. "What happened? Come on, spill!"
You tried to suppress the flush rising to your cheeks, still replaying the moment between you and Todoroki in your head. His confession—his feelings for you—lingered in your mind, but this wasn't the time or place to unpack all of it. So, you played it cool.
"Nothing happened, Mina," you said with a small smirk, attempting to deflect the situation. "We just talked."
"Tch, boring," Kaminari muttered with a chuckle, earning a light jab from Sero. "Come on, there had to be more to it than that!"
Todoroki, standing beside you, remained as stoic as ever, though you noticed a slight pink tint on his cheeks. He didn't offer any additional information, and in his typical manner, he seemed completely unaffected by the teasing.
"Alright, alright," Iida cut in, adjusting his glasses. "Let's not invade their privacy. It was a harmless game, nothing more. Let's move on."
Mina pouted, but a few others agreed, and the bottle began to spin once more. You exhaled, thankful that the attention was shifting away from you, though you couldn't shake the heightened awareness you felt of Todoroki sitting so close to you. Every time you glanced his way, you found him glancing back, his expression unreadable but his gaze lingering.
As the game continued, you tried to focus, but your mind kept drifting back to that moment in the cabin. What now? Todoroki liked you, and you had admitted to liking him too, but where did that leave things? Everything had happened so fast, and with all the training, the villains, and the pressure of becoming heroes, there was little room for romance. And yet, the feelings between you and Todoroki were undeniable, no longer something either of you could ignore.
Eventually, the game ended, and the group began to scatter. Some students drifted toward their cabins, while others lingered by the fire, enjoying the quiet of the night. You stood to leave, needing some space to clear your head.
As you made your way toward the edge of the clearing, you heard footsteps behind you. You turned to see Todoroki walking up to you, his expression soft but serious.
"Can we talk?" he asked, his voice low, but there was a vulnerability there, something rare for him.
You nodded, and the two of you walked further into the woods, where the soft glow of the fire faded behind you. The trees stood tall and quiet, the cool night air brushing against your skin. When you were far enough away from the others, Todoroki stopped, turning to face you.
"I didn't mean to put you on the spot earlier," he began, his voice steady but sincere. "But I wanted you to know how I felt. I've been thinking about it for a while, and it didn't feel right to keep it to myself anymore."
You swallowed, your heart racing again as his words hit you with their full weight. "I'm glad you told me," you replied, meeting his gaze. "I've been confused about us too. There's been so much going on, and I didn't know how to bring it up, or even if I should."
Todoroki's expression softened, and for a moment, there was only silence between you, filled with the unspoken connection that had been there all along.
"I don't want things to be awkward between us," he said, stepping closer, his tone gentle. "We're friends, and we're both working toward becoming heroes. But... I don't want to pretend like there's nothing between us either."
You nodded slowly, understanding exactly what he meant. "I don't want to pretend either. But everything is so complicated right now. I don't know if we can—"
"I know," he interrupted, his voice quiet but firm. "I know it's complicated. But I want to try. If you do."
You blinked, taking in his words, the sincerity in his gaze. He wasn't pushing you, wasn't demanding an answer right away, but he was offering something—an acknowledgment of the feelings between you, a willingness to face the uncertainty together.
"I want to try too," you said, your voice barely above a whisper, but the words felt right. You couldn't ignore the way you felt about him anymore, and neither could he. Even in the chaos of your lives, with the looming threat of villains and the pressure of becoming pro heroes, this—whatever it was between you and Todoroki—deserved a chance.
Todoroki's expression softened even more, and for a brief moment, the tension that had been hanging between you for so long seemed to lift. He reached out, his hand brushing against yours again, and this time, you didn't pull away.
The two of you stood there in the quiet of the forest, the world around you fading into the background. For now, it didn't matter how complicated things were or what challenges lay ahead. All that mattered was that you were both willing to take that step forward—together.
As the night deepened and the camp settled into sleep, you and Todoroki made your way back, a quiet understanding passing between you. The future was uncertain, but for the first time in a long time, you felt a sense of peace, knowing that you weren't alone in navigating it.
And that, at least for tonight, was enough.
