sienna felt something warm on her waist. her body was heaving slowly up and down, in a steady breathing rhythm. her mind was awake but she was too lazy to open her eyes, letting herself drift in the liminal space between sleep and consciousness.

the warmth on her waist remained steady, comforting even. as the moments passed, she became more aware—

it was matt's hand.

it rested lightly on her side. his touch was soft, unintentional perhaps, but undeniably there.

her breath caught in her throat, the closeness between them suddenly magnified in the darkness. she didn't move, unsure if she should.

did he realize? was he awake? her heart pounded, yet she kept her breathing steady, trying to make sense of the jumble of emotions.

seconds turned into minutes. then, she felt him stir, a small shift, his fingers brushing ever so slightly against her skin. it sent a ripple of sensation through her.

sienna wanted to speak, to break the silence, but something held her back. maybe it was fear, or maybe she didn't want to shatter the delicate moment that was still unfolding.

she lay there, feeling the weight of his touch, of the unsaid words, of the closeness that neither of them seemed ready to fully acknowledge.

the room, still dark and quiet, seemed to wrap them in a cocoon, separate from everything outside.

and then, barely a whisper in the night, matt spoke.

"sienna... are you awake?"

his voice was low, uncertain, as if he too was testing the boundaries of whatever was between them.
