"So you acting like you can't answer the phone?" My mama started.
"I'm sorry ma, I was busy." I lied.
"Girl you is not busy, you haven't been answering your daddy calls."
How does she know?
"Okay." I said dryly. I wasn't really talking to my dad like that because I know he invited Devontay at Princess's wedding and then he told Anthony some things that And won't even tell me about.
So that's why I haven't been returning his calls.
He's trying to ruin what me and Ant have.
"Look you're just like him, stubborn. You damn Virgo's." She laughed. "You need to talk to him, you guys are inseparable. You guys need to be cool on Christmas."
"About that ma, I won't be home for Christmas." I revealed and she gasped dramatically.
"What do you mean Kyla? You never miss Christmas."
"Well Anthony has a game and I—." She cut me off.
"I get it, you wanna be there with your man. But me and your dad got you presents. I mean it'll feel so different without you there Ky. Man my baby is growing up." She started crying.
"Ma please don't start. How about we see you after Christmas?" I suggested.
"Okay I guess I can do that but you promise me y'all are gonna come and get your gifts?"
"You got Anthony gifts too?"
"Yeah girl, he's apart of our family now." She smiled. That's crazy because they really don't like nobody but they love Anthony.
"I can't believe you're not coming home from Christmas." My mom pouted.
"Who not coming home for Christmas?" I heard my dad ask from the background.
"Bagg gone somewhere." Mama shoo'd him away.
"So Ky not coming home for Christmas? Why the fuck not?"
"She has a boyfriend Demario. Kyla is not a little girl anymore. She's grown now and it's time for her to live her own life."
"Not with that nigga! I'd rather for her to date what cha ma call it!" He sucked his teeth.
"He got her not coming home for Christmas and shit."
"What is your problem with him Daddy?" I asked catching a attitude. I get that he's overprotective and he's trying to protect me but he can at least be cordial with Anthony and he also has no reason to not like him.
"Ion have no problem with him. He just ain't no good for you, he's just like me mane. He gone break yo heart Ky. And then you choosing his ass over our family, that nigga ain't worth it for you to be missing Christmas."
"Now Demario, why would you say that?" Mama gasped.
"I mean it's true. I'm just being real."
"Ma I'll call you later on, I gotta go."
Did my dad really just say all that?
I sighed, setting my phone on the bed.
I wasn't choosing anyone over anyone.
I loved them all equally.
My dad was just being an asshole.
"You good?" Anthony asked and I just nodded.
Family always comes first but in this case my man does.
"Yeah I'm G." I spoke, zipping up my Goyard duffel bag.
"Man sum bothering you wassup?" He sucked his teeth.
"My dad, he said fucked up shit and it's bothering me."
"Man c'mere." He said grabbing my arm, pulling me on his lap.
"What he say? Lemme kno sum."
"Well I was telling my mom that I wasn't gonna be home this Christmas. He overheard our conversation and joined in. He was saying that you were no good for me and you weren't worth it. He said that I was choosing you over them." I explained. "I love you guys equally. I don't wanna have to choose. I think they'll be alright, I can always visit. I'm just very upset."
"Don't be, its ight. Don't beat yourself up bout it." He wiped my tears away with his thumb.
Maybe he's right.
"Ian gone be home for Christmas either. My family understands, I'm just tryna make sure we straight and my team straight you know."
"Yeah I get it."
"I know that Christmas is yo favorite holiday, we can still celebrate." He promised.
