Kiyotaka Ayanokōji stood with his classmates from Class D, observing the scene with his usual calm demeanor. Despite the chaos around him, he remained composed.

As the ceremony concluded, the students broke off into their respective groups, and the first event was announced:

The 100-Metre Dash.

The 100-Metre Dash was one of the simplest but most intense events, pitting students against each other in a straightforward test of speed. The event was divided into ten groups, with Kiyotaka slated to run in the seventh group. Sudō, being one of the fastest and most competitive students in Class D, was running in the first group.

As the first group lined up at the starting line, Kiyotaka glanced over at Sudō, who looked completely focused, his eyes locked on the finish line. The gun fired, and Sudō exploded off the blocks, his powerful strides quickly putting distance between him and the other runners. He crossed the finish line well ahead of the others, securing first place with ease.

When it was time for the seventh group, Kiyotaka took his position at the starting line, with Yōsuke Hirata beside him. The tension was palpable, but Kiyotaka remained calm. The gun fired, and they were off. Hirata quickly surged ahead, his athletic ability shining through as he pushed himself to the limit. Kiyotaka, on the other hand, maintained a steady pace, coming in fifth, deliberately avoiding drawing too much attention to himself.

As he crossed the finish line, Kiyotaka glanced back at Hirata, who had taken first place in their group. Hirata’s face was a mix of satisfaction and determination as he made his way back to the Class D tent.

After the 100-Metre Dash concluded, Kiyotaka noticed that Sudō was absent from the Class D tent. His eyes scanned the field, quickly spotting Sudō striding towards Rokusuke Kōenji, who was lounging under the shade of a tree, seemingly uninterested in the proceedings.

Hirata noticed the same thing and moved to intervene. Kiyotaka followed, knowing that this could escalate quickly.

“What’s your problem, Kōenji?” Sudō demanded, his voice low and threatening. “We’re all busting our asses out here, and you’re just sitting around.”

Kōenji didn’t even bother to look up. “I’m not feeling well, so I won’t be participating today. It would be unbecoming of me to perform at anything less than my best, Red hair kun-"

Sudō’s eyes narrowed, his fists clenching. “You’re just making excuses, you lazy—”

Before he could finish, Sudō swung a fist at Kōenji, his temper getting the better of him. But Kōenji, with a surprising display of reflexes, easily blocked the punch, his expression remaining calm and aloof.

Hirata quickly stepped between them, his hands raised in a placating gesture. “Sudō, stop! This isn’t going to help us win the festival. We need to stay focused.”

Sudō glared at Kōenji for a moment longer before reluctantly lowering his fist. “Fine,” he spat, turning away. “But don’t think this is over.”

Kiyotaka watched the exchange silently, filing away the details. Kōenji’s refusal to participate was troubling, but it wasn’t unexpected. He would need to keep an eye on Kōenji—and on Sudō’s temper—throughout the festival.

As the results of the first-years’ 100-Metre Dash were announced, Kiyotaka mentioned Kōenji’s behavior to Suzune Horikita. She frowned, clearly annoyed by Kōenji’s refusal to contribute.

“I’ve tried to persuade him,” Suzune admitted, crossing her arms. “But he doesn’t listen to anyone.”

“Keep an eye on him,” Kiyotaka advised. “He’s unpredictable, and that makes him dangerous.”
