TW: fighting. Violence.
Authors note:
I've officially finished writing the whole story! To celebrate I'm uploading another part today (also because I'm super excited to get it all published and see what you all think)
Enjoy!

You sat at the park, breathing deeply, smelling the damp grass, feeling the sun on your skin, and watched a squirrel run up a tree not too far from you. As you followed it with your eyes, you noticed a rainbow faintly forming in the distance providing a small sense of comfort, but not enough to stop you feeling as nervous as you was.
"Hey."
You heard a voice, deep, slightly nervous, come from behind you before the owner of it walked around the bench and sat next to you.
"Mark." You said with a smile, your stomach doing cartwheels, heart fluttering wildly like never before. It had been almost a month since you'd seen him and it felt weird but so good to finally be beside him again. "How are you?"
"Better now I'm with you." He said with a sad smile. His hair was messy, his facial hair unkempt, he looked tired and worn out. None of your friends had really heard from him since the break up and it was now really obvious that he'd been struggling.
"Me too." You said softly. "Your hair looks... wild." You commented.
"Yeah I've not had time to sort it out sorry." He laughed a little, clearly slightly embarrassed. "You look as beautiful as ever."
You blushed. "Thanks." You said, smiling.
Mark drew in a heavy breath then began to speak. "Look I... I just want to start by saying that... I'm not changing my mind." He said, swallowing the lump in his throat. "I... I want you in my life and I'd love to be your man but... my opinion hasn't changed." It clearly pained him to say this.
You sighed. "I..." part of you had really hoped he'd changed his mind. "I understand." You said, fiddling with your fingers nervously. "I just wanted to say something, get it all off my chest, and even if we don't work it out I just want you to hear it."
Mark nodded. "I'm listening. Always."
"So... I have to start by telling you something that happened. And I understand if you're upset or angry or..."
Marks expression firmed up a little. "Go on..."
"A couple of nights ago... I was having a really rough time... And Sean came to see me..."
"Sean." Mark said his name as if it was a curse.
You nodded. "We didn't- we didn't like... you know." You said. "But... we got drunk and kissed and made out and laid together. It was just a distraction for me, and we were both drunk. The next day we spoke about it and Sean told me he had feelings for me but... ultimately wants me to be happy. And he's the one who encouraged me to speak to you today." You felt horrible admitting this to Mark. You felt guilty and dirty but you couldn't just keep it in.
Mark took a deep breath. "Ok..." he sighed. "Um, I guess I have something to admit to you too."
"Go on." You said, suddenly curious.
"I... spoke to my ex. The one who broke up with me because she couldn't stand being in the limelight. Um... we flirted for a bit but... we're different people now. Nothing really came of it."
"Oh." You said, a weird feeling inside you. You didn't like that Mark was flirting around with his ex of all people but in a way you felt less guilty for what you did. "That's ok." You said. You took a deep breath. "Anyway, what I really wanted to say was... I... I really miss you. And... I want to work this out... if you're willing."
