*knock knock knock*
You woke up, startled, hearing someone knocking on your door. The pain in your head was instant, your vision slightly blurred with alcohol withdrawal. You were laid in your sweatpants and bra on Sean's naked chest, one of his arms hanging off the couch, the other wrapped around you. Quickly, remembering everything that happened last night, you scrambled up, waking Sean up in the process who groaned groggily.
Suddenly, before you could even get off the couch, your apartment door creaked open.
"Wait!" You yelled, but it was too late.
Fizz stood there, eyes wide, mouth hanging open in shock and horror. She gasped deep and loud as she covered her mouth. "Y/N!" She cried. "SEAN!"
Sean sat up, suddenly feeling a little queasy at the speed of his movements. "Wah... huh?" He seemed to have forgotten where he was for a moment but slowly, the memories came flooding back as he looked over at you and watched as you scrambled to put your shirt back on.
"Fizz come in let me explain." You said with a sigh, face hot as you sat back onto the couch.
"Yeah you fucking better." She scoffed. "Does Mark know about this?!"
You rubbed your face. "Mark and I broke up Fizz." You were surprised with how easy those words came out. Perhaps it was the pain in your head providing a decent distraction, or the hint of rage you felt towards seeing Fizz like this. You hadn't spoken to her in weeks, the last time was before you and Mark broke up, and now she was here out of the blue with the worst timing in the world. "A while ago now." You added. "If you weren't ghosting me you'd know that by now."
"You... oh..." she said, suddenly becoming embarrassed and feeling guilty for being so distant for so long. "What happened?"
"We broke up because I didn't want to keep our relationship private and he did. And neither of us were changing our minds so..."
"So now you and Sean..."
"No. No this was..." You looked over at Sean who had an ashamed look on his face. "A mistake."
Sean swallowed hard and grabbed his shirt from the floor as Fizz watched him with a nasty expression.
"We didn't even do anything we just... we got drunk and made out. I was hurting and Sean was there for me and it just happened." You explained.
"Oh." Fizz said simply. "Well I um... I came here to apologise."
Sean looked at her with a slightly judgemental expression despite trying to hide his distaste towards her for how she'd been neglecting you through your time of need. If Fizz noticed, she didn't say anything.
"I've been a really shitty friend lately. It's just with Hermi's health going downhill and with this new project I'm working on and... I've just been really busy, I'm sorry I haven't made enough time for you."
"It's fine." You said simply. "Can you come back later? This isn't a great time." Your tone was slightly harsh and cold.
Fizz felt a pang of pain in her heart at being told to leave but she nodded. "I'm sorry about your breakup." She said sadly as she turned to leave. "And I hope you two figure out... whatever this is." She left, closing the door softly behind her, leaving you and Sean sitting there in silence.
"Can we get out of here?" You asked, not looking at Sean.
"Sure, we can go for a walk and get something to eat." Sean suggested as he ran his hand through his hair.
You agreed, went and got changed into fresh clothes in your bedroom, brushed your teeth and the both of you left to go on a walk by the beach.
The air was chilly and with it being such a cold, foggy day, there wasn't really any people about which was nice. After walking along the beach for a while, you came across a bench and both sat on it, looking out at the vast ocean, the sea fog settling in a pretty way across the water.
"Listen, Y/N I'm really sorry." Sean said with a sigh after a moment of silence washed over you. "I... last night..." he struggled with finding the words but you waited patiently. "I shouldn't have come onto you like that."
"Hey." You said softly and put your hand over his. "What we did last night we chose to do together. It was mutual."
"But it was a mistake. You said it yourself." Sean said somewhere between a statement and a question.
You sighed. "I... really like you Sean." You said, looking down at your feet. "We were drunk last night and everything moved really quickly but I do really like you. But I... Mark..." Your voice became a little wobbly.
"You love him don't you." Sean said softly. "You like me but... you love him." There was a hint of sadness in his voice.
You nodded. "I miss him." You said, looking back out at the ocean. "Last night I was trying not to think about him, just focusing on us together, but I do really miss him. I'm sorry I... I didn't mean to lead you on or hurt you or..."
"Last night was amazing. I feel so grateful I got to do that. But I wouldn't dream of keeping you from the person who makes you happy." Sean said softly. "What's the saying? If you love her let her go."
You laughed. "That's A: really cliche and B: a Passenger lyric."
"Shit I hoped you wouldn't notice." Sean laughed. "It does still stand though. What I want most in the world, even above being with you, is for you to be happy." Sean looked at you with a soft, genuine smile. "And Mark makes you happy."
You sighed heavily and looked at Sean, your heart growing for him. You didn't love him romantically but the adoration, admiration and platonic love you felt for him was so strong. "I don't know what to do." You said finally. "I want to be with him. I can't believe I just said goodbye to him. I just..." Your eyes began to well up.
"Go back to him." Sean said, squeezing your hand. "Talk to him. I'm sure he feels the same, I know he loves you. Please Y/N. You deserve happiness." The sadness in his voice was undetectable. "And if it doesn't work out, I'm here and it's not the end of the world. But I'll be damned if I don't let you at least try and fix things with him. I don't want to be the one keeping you from true happiness."
You thought for a moment then nodded. "I'll talk to him." You decided. "I need him."
"I know." Sean said with a smile. "And he needs you."
A pregnant pause washed over you as you both sat there, thinking.
"Before I let you go though..." Sean began, looking down at the floor. "Can I... maybe have one last kiss?"
You laughed a little but then nodded. "I suppose so."
You leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips. It felt different though. Now you'd decided you were going to do everything you could to get Mark back, the kiss felt hollow, empty. Your heart belonged to Mark. And Mark only.
