The last two months had been... interesting to say the least.

In all honesty, JJ was happy, well as happy as you could get with everything going on around her.

Buck had been distant, his focus being on getting back to work.

Sophia had been pulling away, her parents were being harder on her than usual, and she didn't like Ashton, and JJ refused to listen whenever she said it. So she was keeping her distance from the couple, as much as it hurt to do so.

She and Ashton were good. Like really good. She thought she had a chance to find true love with him.

They'd gone on several dates since their first, and they seemed to really like each other. JJ was head over heels obsessed with the blonde boy.

He had asked her to be his official girlfriend a few nights ago on their sixth date, and she squealed before pulling him into a kiss, murmuring the words yes in between kisses.

She and her Aunt had gotten much closer. Since the kidnapping, JJ made sure to spend as much time with Maddie as she could. The two went out for breakfast every other Sunday, forming a tradition.

So apart from the fact that she'd barely spent time with her father and best friend in weeks, she was happy.

Speaking of her father, she was sat waiting on the couch for him to arrive home from his final evaluation.

She silently prayed that he passed, because she couldn't bear to see the sad look in his eyes anymore.

When she heard the key in the door, she jumped up from her spot and bounced on her feet as she waited.

"How did it go!?" She squealed once he walked through the door. Buck took his shoes off, a sad look on his face, making her frown. "No." She said, walking closer to him.

"I passed!" He cheered, making her slap him on the arm. She soon jumped into his arms, letting out a shriek of joy.

She knew being a firefighter was everything to her father, she feared that being taken away from him.

"I'm proud of you, Dad." She mumbled, purposely ignoring the fact he sniffled at her words. "I love you, sweetheart."

It was now evening and JJ was sat waiting at the Grant-Nash household, waiting for Maddie to bring Buck over so they could surprise him.

Sophia sat by her side, the two conversing about Sophia's parents.

This was the first time they'd let her leave the house in weeks, apart from school, so JJ was thrilled to see her best friend again. And Sophia was just thrilled that she didn't see Ashton anywhere.

You'd think the two would be awkward after not speaking for a while, but they'd been friends their whole life, not speaking for a few weeks meant nothing to them. It wouldn't affect their friendship in any way.

"He's here!" Hen whisper-shouted to everyone, making them all gather in the living room.

"Thank you for coming on such short notice." Athena greeted Buck, him not noticing everyone yet.

JJ stood watching him with a shit-eating grin, Eddie and Sophia on each side of her, Chris in front of her, her hands on his shoulders.

"Surprise!" Everyone yelled, making him jump before a grin spread across his face, his blue eyes sparkling.

Eddie stepped forward, pulling his best friend into a hug. JJ and Sophia shared a knowing glance, watching them hug with soft smiles on their faces.

JJ saw how happy Eddie made her Dad, she hoped the Diaz boys would stay in their life forever.
