I swallowed hard and quickly dialed Riko's number, stepping away for a bit of privacy.
"Hello?" Riko's voice was rough, like he'd just woken up.
"Come pick me up," I said flatly. I heard a soft chuckle on the other end before he agreed and asked where I was.
I finished the call and walked back to the man. "Thanks," I said, handing the phone back to him. I didn't miss the redness in his cheeks as I gathered my things and left the bar.
As I walked down the street, I couldn't shake the thought of the man's heated gaze... the way he seemed so nervous around me.
I stopped, noticing the rain had finally ceased. I stood there, a strange warmth spreading in my stomach.
He wasn't bad looking, either... His reddish-blonde hair, those brown eyes, his slightly tanned skin that made the redness in his cheeks more noticeable... And that faint smell of cologne...
Should I go back and give him my number? Would he even want that? Maybe I—
A honk interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see a red car pulling up. I knew it was Riko's. I walked over and got in.
"You're soaked. Maybe I can—" he began.
"Drive," I cut him off, leaving no room for debate. I wanted him to know I was still upset. But my mind drifted back to the redhead from the bar...
I missed the days when men made you feel like you were the most attractive woman on earth... and, for some reason, he made me feel that way.
"Were you drinking?" Riko's voice pulled me from my thoughts.
"I was at a bar. What else would I be doing?" I snapped, giving him attitude. I crossed my arms and stared out the window, watching the streets blur by as he drove me home.
"So... what about us?" he asked. There was nothing left between us, and I wanted to make that clear.
I shrugged, not wanting to give him an answer, at least not until I was home.
"What's that supposed to mean? I told you... there's nothing going on with them," he insisted, reaching out to touch my thigh.
"Stop," I said flatly, brushing his hand away.
He groaned, driving down my street. As soon as the car came to a stop, he turned to me again.
"You're meant for me. It was a harmless joke. If I knew you'd react this way, I wouldn't—"
"You shouldn't have done it in the first place," I cut him off, opening the door to get out.
"We're done, Riko. We're nothing more than co-workers." I slammed the car door shut and walked up to my apartment.
Men sucked. Why couldn't they be like the ones in the romance novels I read? Maybe it's because those men are written by women... yeah, that makes sense.
I opened my door and stepped inside. My rabbit, Lola, greeted me at the entrance.

I went through my usual routine—getting undressed, taking a shower, eating, and venting to Lola about how men suck. But as I lay in bed, my thoughts drifted back to that redhead at the bar...
"You're sexy."
My stomach warmed at the memory. His words had an effect on me... and I knew exactly how to fulfill my needs tonight.
It was going to be a long night... and I could still smell his cologne lingering in my senses~
Maybe it was the alcohol dulling my sense of dignity, but I found my legs pressing together, thinking about him. This was wrong on so many levels. I didn't even know his name... but there was something about his words, his voice, his looks that just did it for me.
Don't judge me—you're the one reading about my love life.
Just as I felt a spark of something I hadn't felt in a long time, my phone buzzed, pulling me back to reality.
I grabbed it and glanced at the screen.
