Chapter Twenty : Brownies
"This looks great, Izuku. Oh my..." Y/n trails off, her eyes flickering from the beautiful display on the table to Izuku. "How long did this take to set up?"
Izuku flushes in the face, clasping his hands behind his back. He shys away with shrug, "It doesn't matter. But do you like it?"
Y/n nods, "Yes, oh my goodness. The food looks and smells delicious. And you look—" Izuku's eyes slowly pan up to Y/n's face, eagerly awaiting her response, "You look so handsome, Izu."
Izuku's face turns fifty shades darker, but he smiles nonetheless and returns the compliment. But not without stumbling over his words and eagerly expressing how much he likes the way her blouse hugs her chest.
He quickly moves on from that and turns to pull a chair out for her. "Here, come sit. I bet you're hungry." He mutters, gesturing to the open seat.
Y/n hides her own nervous smile and accepts his gesture. She slowly sits down and she makes a move to pull herself in, but Izuku beats her to it, pushing her seat in and patting her on the shoulder.
"I got you," he whispers, "What would you like to eat first?" He says, moving on. "I made chicken noodle soup with rolls if you want something light to start off with, I made roasted beef and mashed potatoes! I've got sides of mixed vegetables, baked potatoes and yams, and of course, bread. I would've made more, but I didn't want to make too much..." He trails off to catch his breath, which Y/n takes as an invitation to speak.
"I'd like to try [choose whatever you want], I think. I'm starving." Y/n smiles up at Izuku.
She watches him prepare her plate. He lets her tell how much of what she would like, and when he's done, he sets her plate down and pours her a glass of wine. He doesn't prepare his own plate until she's taken care of, which makes Y/n all warm inside.
Once he's seated, they take a moment before digging in.
The food melts on Y/n's tongue, the flavors exploding on her pallet and filling her with warmth. Manners are thrown out the window the second that fork/spoon meets her lips. She can't help but moan at the pure taste and then shovel the food into her mouth.
Between mouthfuls, she sings Izuku's praise. She compliments on the food and she tells him how great of a cook he is. Izuku soaks up all of her compliments and kind words like a sponge. He's a smiling and blushing mess throughout the entire meal.
"There's desert too!" Izuku mentions after washing down the last bite of steak, the smell of whiskey lingering on his breath. "I made brownies! But, if you're full, I bought some fresh fruit from the market earlier!"
Y/n's smile widens, "Thank you, Izu. You're so sweet. Could I get a brownie though?"
Izuku eagerly nods and reaches over the table to dump a brownie on Y/n's plate. He gives himself one as well, and soon they're biting down into the chocolaty goodness and ascending into the heavens.
Y/n is instructed to sit back and relax as Izuku cleans up the table. She isn't very happy about it, but she does it nonetheless. She moves to sit on the porch (to stay out of his way) and she watches with furrowed eyebrows as he moves the dishes inside. Eventually, the backyard is empty.
Izuku takes a little longer to return after taking the table inside, and Y/n doesn't think much of it. She nurses her drink, her eyes focused on what was left of the setting sun. It's sinking between a dip in the mountains, the array of colors slowly being replaced by darker ones.
She takes this time to digest dinner and to think about Izuku. Tonight's meal wasn't just a meal. Y/n isn't stupid. There's a reason Izuku made all of her favorite foods. Y/n has a feeling that after tonight, she won't be single for much longer.
In a way, that excites her. She's been yearning for a family for so long, and it's just out of her reach. She's been dreaming of the day she'd be able to come home to a warm home and a loving husband, and one day, little children of her own. Growing up with two loving parents only fueled that dream.
On the other hand, however, she's a little scared. Is Izuku the one? Is Izuku going to be the one to give her everything she's ever dreamed of? Bakugou's face flashes in her mind, making her smile falter.
Over the course of the last few weeks, she has grown to love them both. They're both very special to her, and Y/n is scared to choose one over the other.
Y/n's thoughts are cut off when Izuku walks through the open door with his hands behind his back. He walks in a way that Y/n can't see what he's hiding, which making her furrow her eyebrows. She's about to ask when whatever he's hiding makes a noise.
"What's that?" Y/n sits up and sets her glass to the side, "What're you hiding?"
With a wide smile, Izuku pulls his hands out from behind his back to reveal a dog. It's a small little thing with a tri-colored coat (mostly white with black and brown spots here and there), one tall ear and one folded ear, and a curly tail! There's a green ribbon wrapped around its neck to showcase its job as a gift.
Y/n gasps, cupping her hands over her mouth as she watches Izuku handle the puppy. He shifts it in his arms so it's more comfortable before clearing his throat. "This little guy was brought into town earlier by a ranger. He told me he was either going to be put down or given to some farmer. I've been looking for a suitable gift to give you for a while now, and he was practically dropped in my lap." Izuku explains, "I haven't named him or anything, so you are free to call 'im whatever you want if you want to keep him."
Izuku slowly hands the puppy over to Y/n, who accepts him with open arms. She runs her fingers through his wirey coat, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I was thinking, if you wanted to keep him, he could be our dog." That catches Y/n'e attention, but she lets him finish. "I really like you Y/n, and I'm done playing games. I want to come home knowing you're mine. I want to give you everything you could possibly need. I want to marry you. I understand Kacchan is also chasin' after your affections and I would understand if you chose him over me, but I believe I'd be a better husband. We've been best friends for so long I know you like I know my own hand. I love you Y/n, and I'd do anything to make you happy."
It's quiet for a moment. Y/n soaks up everything Izuku just threw at her as she pets through the puppy's soft fur. Izuku awaits a response of some kind, but he's too impatient to actually wait.
He gets down on his knees and softly grabs Y/n's hands, seizing her movements. He looks her in the eyes and nearly begs for an answer.
"I don't care what you have to say, I just need to hear your voice, N/n. I need to know how to proceed after this."
With a shaky breath, Y/n nods. "Okay..." She mutters. "I love you too, Izu, and I'd love to call you—"
