Chapter Nineteen : A Secret
Over the course of that week, Y/n is showered in gifts and kind gestures from both boys. From Katsuki, she gets dozens of bouquets of wild flowers, new skirts and blouses, and even a bottle of wine. He has accompanied her to and from work most days, and during that time Y/n has gotten go know Katsuki on a deeper level.
From Izuku, she's gotten home cooked meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), some new books, a custom-made dresser for her room, and a new pair of boots. Outside of the gifts, they've spent some well-needed time together. Ever since he got back, Izuku has been focused on beating Bakugou at this game. He hasn't been spending a whole lot of time with his best friend, and he made up for it this week! They went on a couple of trail rides, they've had lunch together, and their free time has been spent together getting to know one another again.
All-in-all, it's been a good week and Y/n is ready for the weekend. After a long week of work and being pampered, a weekend spent resting is all she needs.
She wishes her last student farewell and quickly gets to work. She can't wait to get home, the thought of eating a good meal and relaxing on the porch lighting a fire under her butt and prompting her to move faster.
Y/n moves through the motions of cleaning her classroom in a blank state. It was all a blur, to be honest. She blinked and suddenly she's shrugging on her shaw and locking the door. It's when she hears the lock click that she realizes Katsuki is nowhere to be seen.
Y/n does a full spin on the porch outside of the school step, slowly looking around the neighborhood to see if she can spot the blond. He's nowhere to be seen, and that worries Y/n.
In the time that he's been courting Y/n, he hasn't missed a single chance to walk her home. It's very concerning.
Part of Y/n wants to wait for him—to wait and see if maybe he's just running late—but logically, if he wasn't here by now, then the chances of him turning up are low and she knows that.
With a frown, Y/n begins descending down the staircase. She takes one step at a time to drag it on (to give Bakugou that extra time) until she's stepping foot on the ground.
Y/n hugs her shaw closer and slowly begins walking home. She's obviously a little upset about Katsuki's absence. A frown has carved itself into her face and she's dragging her feet, leaving behind a trail of dust. She almost wonders if he decided that there was no point in all of this. She almost tears up at the thought.
Katsuki has become a constant in her life. He's something she looks forward to when she wakes up in the morning, and she thinks about him before she goes to bed most nights. The walk to-and-from work is something she looks forward to, because she has Katsuki go hang out with. While Y/n still may not know if he's fit to be her husband, she sure as Hell enjoys having him as a companion.
Her sad thoughts are swatted away by Izuku's smiling face, who is standing at the foot of her porch. Upon seeing his freckles and his toothy grin, Y/n can't even remember why she was sad.
Y/n instantly perks up and hurries over to give the boy a big hug. He wraps his arms around her and sways her from side-to-side, heaving a low sigh. "I missed you today. How was work?" Izuku mutters into her hair.
Y/n's eyes flutter shut as she inhales Izuku's natural musk. "It was good." She replies after a moment, "How was your day?"
Izuku pulls away to get a good look at her—to make sure she's okay and she isn't hurt—before removing his hands from her waist. "It was okay." He shrugs, "Are you ready for dinner?"
Izuku's face brightens at the mention of dinner; his eyes are practically twinkling with an underlying tone of mischief, something Y/n misses. Almost on cue, Y/n's stomach growls.
She giggles, "I am yeah, what did you make?"
"That's a secret!" Izuku chuckles, "Go wash up and grab some warm clothes. I've got something special planned!"
Y/n's eyebrows furrow, but Izuku doesn't let her question his motives. He softly grabs her hand and pulls her up the stairs, where he opens the door and pushes her inside. "Go on! I'll be waiting out here for you when you're done."
Y/n stares at Izuku for a moment, but she doesn't dwell on his odd behavior for much longer. She discards her boots at the front door then hurries upstairs, where she'll do as she's told.
In the bathroom, she washes her hands and washes her face. She doesn't have time for a bath before dinner, so she thoroughly removes any grime on her body with a wet rag. Afterwards, she practically runs to her room to get changed.
She changes out of her work clothes and into something much more flattering; a long f/c skirt and a long sleeved blouse with some silver [or gold, depending on your preferences] jewelry. She tames her hair with a brush and some water, then puts it back up so it's out of her face. It's nothing special, but it's better than what she was wearing.
After a few minutes, she is finally ready to go downstairs. She takes her time walking down the stairs, her eyes immediately searching the lower level in search of Izuku.
She takes a peak outside the front door to see if Izuku is there, and he's not, so she turns on her heel to walk down the hall. Y/n takes her time in approaching the back door. She's a little nervous—a little scared, even. She has no idea what's awaiting for her behind that door.
Cautiously, she pushes open the door. Before her is a sweet scene staring Izuku. He has moved a table into the backyard. There's food in fancy dishes topping the wooden surface, accompanied by fancy glasses and tall, untouched bottles of booze. In the center of the table is a tall vase full of wild flowers. They're vibrant in color with wild textures and intoxicating smells.
Behind the table is the setting sun. It's setting over the tall mountains in the valley, creating the perfect painting. It's yellow and it's orange, and there's pretty streaks of vibrant pink. It's stunning.
And then there's him. He's as dashing as always, and Y/n can't help but look him over. He's wearing a pair of trousers (they look clean, not a spec of dirt in sight, which is surprising but appreciated) with a plain white button top, which is tucked into the waistband of his pants. The sleeves are rolled up to his elbows, displaying his firm forearms. He's not wearing a tie or anything, but that's okay. His hair has grown out just a bit since he's been home, so he's not completely bald anymore. No, his pretty green hair is finally visible and Y/n swears she can see just the slightest bit of curl.
All in all, Y/n wants to say forget the food. She would much rather feast on Izuku than the steak that was prepared.
