"We'll be back after school to get our stuff..." Alex told Mr. Kiery as the bell rang.
"Okay. Don't worry about it. I'll be here. Have a good day Christofer and friends." Mr. Kiery answered.
He likes to call Alex Christofer because Alex has long, shaggy, punk rock hair, like Christofer Drew from NeverShoutNever. Weird, funny, but true.
We walked out and I grabbed Alex's hand. Suddenly I couldn't breath. I needed to catch my breath.
"You okay?" He asked me.
"Yeah... I'm fine... I just... needed a deep breath, that's all..." I answered.
He rubbed the top of my hand with his thumb and said,
"It's okay, it'll be okay. Remember my promise."
"I know. Thanks Babe." I answered.
The end of the day is gonna be miserable...
"Bye girls. Have a good Summer." Coach called to us.
"Bye coach!" Tal and I said as we walked out of the gym room together.
"I'm actually gonna miss her yelling at me to do more push-ups." Tal commented.
"Yeah... I freaking hated that." I said laughing.
"FIVE MORE SARAH! COME ON BE A GIRL!" Gabby yelled from behind us.
I laughed as if it was all okay. As if I wasn't about to walk into my second dad's class for the last time as a student.
We walked up to the Cap.'s class and I said bye to Gabby and Tal.
"The beginning of the end..." I thought.
"Hey Cap." I said walking in.
"Hey kid." He replied. He was sad. I could see it clear as day, but nobody seemed to notice.
I put my stuff down and walked back to where the Cap. was standing at the door.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm fine." He answered.
"No you're not now tell me why." I fought back.
He never lets me off the hook, I'm sure as crap not gonna let him off.
"I'm a lot like you kid. You're not the only one who thinks a lot..."
He didn't want to make eye contact with me when he said it, but I understood. I understood that he was hurting. I also understood what he needed. I gave him a tight hug and said-
"Whatever it is, you'll be okay."
"Thanks kid. Get the other two songs out I wanna see what I missed." He said walking in.
I pulled the songs out from my binder, but right before I went to take a step toward the Cap. someone snatched one of the songs out of my hand.
"Oooooooo, did the freak write a new song about how depressing her life is?" Someone asked.
"Please... give it back. My friends and I worked really hard on that."
"Yeah? Well work harder." The boy said.
And then, he did the unthinkable. He ripped the papers right in half, and then again, and then he crumpled them up and dropped them on the floor. Like they were trash.
