My eyes widened in disbelief as I processed Rick's words. 'Did Rick Hale, the same guy who had been acting cold and distant towards me, actually apologize?' The thought was almost unbelievable.
"You said what?" I asked
Of course I heard him the first time, I just wanted to hear it again.
"Please Do not make me repeat myself Kinsley." He glared into my eyes.
I gently removed Rick's hand from my arm, my gaze fixed on him as I asked, "But Do you mean it though?" The sincerity of his apology still hung in the air, and I needed reassurance that he was being genuine.
Rick's eyes darted around the room, searching for the right words to say. His expression was filled with uncertainty, a mixture of emotions playing across his face.

"Hm?"
"I— don't know." He let out
The uncertainty in his eyes had given way to a hint of resignation, like he was acknowledging his own flaws but unsure if he could change them.
"Rick."
I placed both palms on the sides of Rick's face, gently guiding his focus back to our conversation. I could sense his struggle to find the right words, and I hoped my touch would provide some comfort and clarity in the moment.
"Kinsley, I don't know if I can promise that I won't be disrespectful again to you.."
"Can you at least try?"
"For me Hale?"
Rick's eyes suddenly stopped darting around, and he looked directly into mine. The gentle contact of my hands on his face seemed to bring his focus back momentarily, and the mention of his last name seemed to have a profound effect on him.
"Why are you so nice to me?"
"Because I care about you, Rick."
"I care so much that it even hurts me sometimes,"
"I see the good within you." I placed the palm of my hand on his chest.
Rick and I maintained eye contact, and I sensed a shift in his gaze as he looked at me intently, his eyes lingering and darting to my lips. The intensity of our stare held a hint of unspoken emotions, creating a charged moment between us.
