Chapter 4Close
"Study hard, Corseanne. I want you to secure your own future, so if our time comes, we have nothing to worry about," my Father said while we were eating breakfast.
I don't know if all parents say things like this, but my parents always remind me that their lives are not unlimited. Na dadating ang panahon na mawawala sila kaya dapat habang bata pa matuto na ako sa buhay.
Alam ko naman 'yon, pero sa tuwing naririnig 'yon galing sa kanila, hindi ko mapigilang masaktan.
"I'm studying hard, Dad. Have you seen my scores?" tinapalan ko ng yabang ang boses ko, when deep down my heart, it hurt to hear those words from him.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" he asked with a smile, like he was so proud of me.
I shrugged. "I don't know yet, Daddy..."
"How about business related courses?" Mom involved herself while putting bacon on my plate.
I made a face. They laughed.
"Are you not inclined in math?" Dad said with his soft chuckles.
Malaking tao si Daddy. He's not fat. His large physique is due to his muscles. My father looked good even though he was already in his 40's. If you're going to open his messenger, you'd see plenty of message requests from different women. He's still a catch despite his age. But of course, wala siyang pinapatulan. He loves me and Mom so much.
"You know I love art..." I pouted and continued eating.
"So, do you want to pursue something related to art?" Mom asked.
I nodded. "Sana. But I'm not sure yet. I'm still young, I'll discover my preference along the way."
They nodded while attentively listening to my answers.
"Don't worry, I've already saved a lot for your future, so don't fret about financial reasons when choosing your field."
I nodded and ate peacefully after that. Another day to be grateful for having parents like them.
Sinundo ako ng sasakyan nina Eli dahil tatapusin na ang costume sa hacienda nila. Next weekend, shooting na, and then... tapos na.
Hindi ko alam kung paano na kami pagkatapos nito. Yes, we are already messaging each other and interacting in person, but this project is what strengthens our bond. Tapos mawawala na...
"Ms. Face card, who are your favorite artists?" Basty asked on our way.
"Hmm, the 1975 and... Keshi!"
His question was out of the blue but I appreciated it. I didn't know why I found it cute.
"Nice," he said. "I think you'll love Cigarettes After Sex too..." dagdag niya pa, seryoso habang nag-i-scroll sa social media.
My face heated as I looked away. "I don't smoke..." and I am a virgin. I wanted to add that too but the word was just too explicit.
He howled with laughter. I also... heard Eli chuckle like I just said something hilarious. Nagmura si Basty nang malakas.
"Seryoso ka ba? Or joke 'yon?" tawang-tawa si Basty, may pahawak pa sa tiyan.
I creased my eyebrows, curious why the hell they are laughing. Ano'ng nakakatawa roon?
"What's funny?" I asked.
Tumawa muna siya. "Artist 'yon! It's a pop band!" Hindi siya matigil kakatawa. "I don't smoke raw..."
