Capture The Flag With Barbies

Chapter 5

I wake up to an empty cabin. Everyone even Allison has left me in the Hermes cabin sleeping. I pull my covers off and head to my chest when Chiron comes galloping in “Alright young hero get your things, and meet me at the Aphrodite cabin”. Before I can get a word out he throws me a suit case, and leaves. “Must have been in a rush” I say to myself. I pull everything out of the chest and stuff it into the suit case. Then I remember I haven’t changed from the shorts and tank top I sleep in. I pull my camp shirt on and shimmy into some denim gray shorts.  The suit case weight a shizz load when I picked it up. I walk out of the Hermes cabin and outside are to Hermes boys who stare at me as I walk away. When they thing I’m out of hearing range I hear one say “who would have known she was one Aphrodite’s kids”.

This defiantly gets me mad. I mean it’s not like those kids are any better than I am! All of a sudden I hear a familiar voice behind me. “Hey Liz” David calls after me. I slow down to let him catch up. He looks at my face “Let me help you with that before you explode with fury” he said. I give him the suit case and we start walking. Oh great now my emotions are easy to tell. I almost forget that David is there when he speaks up. “So, you ready for capture the flag today” he asks. “Capture the wha?” I said as we get closer to the Aphrodite cabin.

He smiles his happy go lucky smile showing all his teeth.  “It’s a game we play every Friday  divide into two teams, red and blue, each team has their own flag somewhere, and the other team has to try and get it” He explained. It sounds ok now “you make it sound so simple” I say he laughs and said “that’s because it is simple”. I look at him in disbelieve and said “nothings simple at Camp Half-Blood”. He nods his head knowing it’s the truth. We finally make it to the Aphrodite cabin with Chiron waiting outside for me. “Liz, come in and meet your new cabin mates” he said to me as I look nervously at the cabin. “Don’t worry; I’ll walk in with you” David whispers in my ear. We walk in and I feel all eyes on me except for one icy cold glare from Angelica which I ignore.

The whole cabin is so clean and…Really pink? How do these boys live in here? I see some smiles from people and I smile back. Chiron’s voice scares me as he speaks up again “Drew will you please help Liz settle in for now until Piper gest back” he said. Then a girl steps forward tall, Asian, dark hair in ringlets, plenty of jewelry, and perfect makeup. Somehow she managed to make jeans and an orange T-shirt look glamorous. This girl was defiantly a daughter of Aphrodite, but yet I get a feeling she’s shallow and conceited. She looks me up and down nodding her head then turns to Chiron and says “sure”. Chiron leaves and Drew puts her arm around my shoulder “Come sweetie I’ll show you your bed” she said.

As we walk I notice she smells of nutmeg and pine. I wonder do all Aphrodite kids smell like that. David still follows with my suit case.  Drew takes me to a pastel blue and green bed. David puts my suit case on the bed and walks away whispering “stay alive for capture the flag”. Oh god he left me with the Barbie’s. I start unpacking and putting everything in the chest that already has my name painted on it. Even as I do that I feel all eyes on me. I get done and sit down and even then all eyes follow me. I’m usually not one to break the ice, but the staring was unbearable. “So who’s ready for capture the flag” I ask. Not helping, I get some disapproving looks from the Barbie’s and some nods from the guys.

Angelica snarls and said “all we do in capture the flag is guard the flag, so you better not mess that up” that  part came out like a threat.  I wasn’t willing to get into a fight on the first day of being in a new cabin, so I stayed quiet. Soon everyone went back to their everyday things some putting up posters on the wall of movie stars. I’m not really into that so I decide to leave and get out of the perfume filled cabin. I walk or should I say run out of the cabin. Maybe I could go practice my archery for the quest. Chiron had said we were leaving in about two days. I head to the archery field and I stop dead in my tracks there in the middle is Blake. Oh god I hope he doesn’t seem me I think as I try to walk in the other direction.
