I didn't want to leave Chicago but I had no choice. I had been almost a week since I had been home and Diddy was hounding Lauren and I to come back to New York as soon as possible. A part of him understood my home sickness but at the same time, I needed to come to terms with the fact that I needed to get serious about my career - put my all into it. My attention had to be focused on song writing, recording, and producing.
Our plane was leaving at 12:15PM. As I continued to pack my belongings, Lauren walked into my room. I smiled her way. "Hey, you packed already?" I asked.
She nodded and then sighed. "I want to go back but I don't at the same time."
"I feel you," I breathed, stuffing my makeup bag in my cross-body. I zipped up my luggage before sitting on my bed. "How's Slim doing?" I asked.
She grinned, her cheeks turning a rosy-pink color. "He's good. I was actually just on the phone with him," she began. "He's helping Kells finish the album. Apparently Diddy wants it this week."
I nodded. I actually hadn't spoken to Kells in a few days so I had no idea what was going on with him. Well, that's a lie. I knew exactly what was going on - thanks to TMZ.
Kells and Amber had made an appearance on their online celebrity gossip site; there were pictures of them holding hands and her picking him up from the airport. I only found out because Lauren had pointed it out to me a few days ago.
Since it hit the web, I hadn't heard from him nor did I make an effort to speak to him either. I guess - deep down - I felt some type of way. I would never admit it out loud. I had more pride than that.
"Oh, guess what?" I smiled. Lauren's eyebrows rose - a hint to continue. "I wrote a song last night."
"Really?" her face brightened. "Good. I'm glad to hear you're still writing. It feels like you haven't had enough time lately."
She was right. Between helping Matt finish the song back in LA to coming back to Chicago and visiting family and old friends, I hadn't had much time to myself. I grinned. "Yeah. I'll have you read the lyrics on the plane. I actually want to record it when we get back to New York - but by myself."
"What do you mean by yourself?" she asked, leaning against the wall.
"Like produce it myself," I said simply.
She furrowed her eyebrows together. "Do you know enough to do it by yourself?"
"Well Matt taught me a lot and so have Kells and Slim." I shrugged. "We'll obviously need a engineer there for the things I don't know how to do, but I'm pretty confident I know what I'm doing."
Lauren smiled. "Sounds good. After our meeting with Diddy, we'll head straight to the studio."
A few hours later we had landed in New York City. The busy atmosphere woke me up immediately. After we dropped off our belongings at the hotel, we headed straight for Bad Boy Records. When we got there, we headed to the elevator to take us to the correct floor.
I leaned against the elevator wall; LP was too invested in her phone. She glanced back at me and smiled. "Guess what?"
I looked up at her. "What?"
"Slim said he'd help with Say Yeah. " She grinned.
The elevator stopped then, opening it's doors. Down the hall I could see Darla, Diddy's receptionist, at her desk, on the phone. I glanced over at Lauren as we stepped off the elevator. "He's in town?" I asked.
"Well, yeah," she said. "I told you he was helping Kells finish the album."
"You didn't mention they were in New York," I stated. Last I had heard from Kells, he was back home in Cleveland. Diddy must have really been up his ass about finishing General Admission.
