"Do you have the sexy swimsuit?" Biana checked.
"Yes," Sophie said, rolling her eyes.
"What about the breath mints?"
"Yep."
"Pillows and comfy blankets?"
"Yes."
"Comfort snacks?"
"YES! I'm going to be fine, Biana," Sophie promised.
"Better than fine. You're going on a road trip with Keefe Sencen. The chaos potential here is unmatched." Biana leveled a stern look at Sophie. "You'd better facetime me whenever possible and give me every detail, okay?"
"I will," Sophie laughed, playfully shoving Biana out of the way as she zipped up her suitcase.
She met Keefe at his car, and even though he'd had plenty of time to make peace with the fact that she was coming on this trip whether he liked it or not, he was still pouting about it. "You know, there's still time for you to decide this idea is crazy," Keefe told her.
Sophie pretended to consider it, then shook her head. "No, I'm good. This should be fun!"
Keefe sighed. "Fine! Fine." He clicked a button on his keys, and the trunk to his car opened. "Your stuff can go back there with mine."
"I liked your shameless flirting better," Sophie said, unbothered by his attitude as she tossed her suitcase into his trunk. She had the blackmail. She held the power.
"Most of the hot girls that come through this car aren't scheming little blackmailing devils," Keefe muttered, and Sophie couldn't help but recognize his statement once again that she was hot, like it was an objective fact that he could throw into any context. Even his complaining. Somehow, that made her cheeks heat up even more than his flirting had.
"Yes, well, most of the hot guys I've met aren't lying little cheaters," she said with a sweet smile as she opened his passenger door. She let her eyes say what she really meant, which was that the power was now officially in her hands.
Keefe's surprised expression morphed into his regular smirk, and Sophie could already feel a new dynamic settling between them. "Well then, Foster," he said smoothly, "let's hit the road."
—
"The deal was that I take you to New York City and you delete that photo, not I do whatever you say!" Keefe complained as some of Sophie's favorite punk pop music blessed through the speakers of his car.
"Well, now I'm just having fun making fun of you for being a swiftie," Sophie teased.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with some good old-fashioned Taylor Swift music, Sophie."
"This song is older than anything Taylor has made. Significant misuse of the phrase old-fashioned."
"You're going to make this entire trip difficult, aren't you," Keefe said with a sigh, gripping the steering wheel.
"It'll build character," Sophie said sweetly.
"You are very lucky I find you attractive as hell, Foster."
"That doesn't matter," Sophie said, as smoothly as she could. Gosh darn it, she was always letting this stupid boy make her blush. "I have the blackmail. You'd have to do what I said either way."
"The deal still didn't involve you controlling the music in my car," Keefe told her, which was fair, but Sophie wasn't in a very fair move. Besides, she was having tons of fun being in charge.
