They arrived as Lucy carried Mia inside, Tim carried her little backpack. Grey and Andersen looked over as they were working on a case and they walked over "Wow, don't we have a little twin?" Grey said as he looked at Mia and Mia smiled gratefully "What is your name sweetie?" Andersen asked and Mia looked at Lucy "You have a name right?" Lucy joked and Mia smiled.
"It's Mia ma'am" she said and Andersen frowned, looking at Lucy and she smiled "You don't have to call me ma'am," Andersen said warmly. Mia smiled, her shyness easing a bit. Grey looked between Lucy and Mia, a question in his eyes. "I assume she is your daughter?" he asked. Lucy nodded, smiling "Yes, she is. She got into a bit of trouble at school today and needed to be picked up. We're just waiting for her aunt to come and get her." Grey raised an eyebrow.
"What kind of trouble?" Lucy smiled wryly. "This little one punched a boy in the face after he pushed her to the ground and pulled her hair." Lucy said, playing with her little curls. Grey's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "And she got suspended because she hit the boy good?" Lucy nodded. "Yeah, I teach her self defense and School's no-violence policy doesn't give room for that" Andersen glanced at Mia.
"She's a literal copy of you officer Chen?" she pointed out and Lucy smiled gratefully "Little boot" Tim said and Andersen and Grey grinned while Lucy rolled her eyes "Yes we get told all the time" as Keith's wife walked up "Thanks for coming on such short notice," Lucy said, as Tim handed Mia's backpack over. "No problem," her aunt replied, smiling at Mia. "Come on, sweetie. Let's get you out of here" Mia hugged Lucy tightly. "Bye, Mommy. See you later." "Bye, baby. Be good for your aunt," Lucy said, kissing Mia on the forehead.
"Bye, Tim," Mia said as she waved him goodbye. Tim smiled and waved back. "Bye, little boot." Lucy smiled, watching Mia leave. Andersen turned to her with a curious expression.
"So now I have to ask, who is the lucky father?" Andersen asked. Lucy smiled wistfully. "Mia's father passed away when she was four months old, so not so lucky." There was a moment of silence as Andersen and Grey processed the information. "I'm sorry to hear that, Lucy," Grey said gently and Lucy nodded.
"Thanks, but it's totally fine, it was a long time ago" Lucy replied and Andersen nodded "What happened, if you don't mind me asking?" Lucy looked at Tim before answering, "We were in a car accident. A driver hit us head-on while we were driving home. Mia and I walked away, but ehh he didn't." There was a moment of silence as the weight of her words settled in. Grey and Andersen exchanged somber glances, clearly affected. "I'm so sorry, Lucy," Andersen said gently, her voice filled with empathy. Lucy nodded, managing a small, grateful smile. "Thank you ma'am, but it's fine, it was a long time ago" Lucy said.
"It's good to know that your soft spot is my child tho, that might come in handy? " Lucy said to Tim, lighting the mood and Grey and Andersen grinned "Let's go BOOT" Tim said in his TO voice and Lucy smiled "Yes sir" Lucy replied as she quickly walked after him and Grey grinned as they left for patrol again.
*at lunch* "Hey, was Mia okay?" Nolan asked as they all sat down "Yeah, but she got suspended" Lucy said as she sighed "What happened?" Angela asked "A boy at her school was bullying her all day. He made fun of her. She didn't say anything back because I've always told her to walk away from bullies." Lucy paused, her frustration palpable. "But then he pushed her to the ground and pulled her hair. That's when she defended herself and punched him in the face." Lucy said as she started on her lunch.
"Why did she get suspended if he hurt her first?" Nyla asked, "The boy ended up with a black eye, and the school has a strict no-violence policy. They don't make exceptions, even for self-defense." and Tim nodded "Well I did find out Tim's soft spot today" Lucy grinned, looking at Tim as she pulled out a photo of Tim holding Mia she secretly took of them "I... is that a smile on his face?" Angela asked as she took the phone out of Lucy's hands and Lucy smiled "You are going to pay for this boot" Tim whispered and Lucy laughed.
*A few weeks later* "Let's go, get the war bags boot" Tim started the day, like everyday, "yes sir" Lucy replied "Well good luck today with mister stern" Jackson joked, like he had done all week and Lucy gave him a glare "You know what I think he might be warming up a bit to me" Lucy said and grinned "He doesn't bark at me 24/7" Lucy said and Nolan laughed. "Well good for you" He added and they all grinned "Move your legs faster Boot!" Tim barked at her from the shop and Lucy sighed "Never mind" Lucy added and swiftly turned away and Jackson and Nolan laughed.
They had a quiet morning until a call came in for a possible domestic violence call. A woman stood out of an apparent building in a bit of a panic state, they walked over "Ma'am you need to calm down, what is going on?" Tim asked " It's my upstairs neighbours, they have fought a lot the past few weeks but I heard screaming and loud thuds" the women replied and Tim and Lucy nodded.
"Do you know which apartment they live in?" Lucy asked "yeah 334F, on the third floor" The woman replied and they made their way over there "Ma'am LAPD open up!" Tim shouted, both of them pulled out their guns as they heard a struggle inside. Nobody opened the door so Tim kicked the door down. "LAPD SHOW ME YOUR HANDS" Tim shouted as they entered, there was a man swinging around with a bat and a woman holding a vase "Ma'am, drop the vase!" Tim shouted as he walked up to her, his voice firm and authoritative.
Lucy focused on the man standing nearby, ready to intervene. Before she could issue a command, the man swung his bat at the woman but missed, hitting Lucy in the ribs instead. The impact sent her to the ground, and Tim's eyes widened in shock.
Ignoring the pain, Lucy quickly scrambled to her feet. "Drop the bat NOW!" she shouted, her voice laced with anger and authority. The man hesitated for a moment, then compiled, letting the bat fall to the ground with a clatter. "Hands behind your head!" Lucy commanded, moving forward to cuff him.
The man reluctantly obeyed, and she swiftly secured the cuffs around his wrists. "You are under arrest for assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon," Lucy continued, her voice steady despite the throbbing pain in her ribs. Tim moved to check on the woman with the vase, ensuring she was unharmed and securing the scene, arresting her.
Once everything was under control, he turned back to Lucy, concern evident in his eyes. "You okay?" he asked, his voice softer now, "God damn, I didn't see him," Lucy muttered, leaning against the shop for support. Tim frowned, his concern growing. "You sure you're okay?" he asked, his voice filled with worry. Lucy straightened up, trying to brush off the incident. "Yes, I'm fine,".
She replied, but her tone didn't quite match her words. "It's just gonna bruise a bit." Tim wasn't convinced. "No, that was a pretty nasty hit. You're gonna get checked out," he insisted, his tone firm. Lucy sighed but nodded in agreement. She knew Tim was right, even if she hated admitting it.
As she moved to open the car door, however, a sudden wave of nausea washed over her. She dropped to her knees, her stomach lurching, and she doubled over, retching. Tim sprang into action, rushing over to her side. "Chen!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with concern. He knelt down beside her, placing a hand on her back, his other hand reaching for a nearby water bottle. He offered it to her once she finished vomiting. "Alright, you probably have a concussion," he said.
Lucy nodded, feeling a sense of dizziness and disorientation wash over her as she stood up. They dropped off the assailants "Sir, We're going to get Chen checked out, he swung a pretty bad hit at her, possible concussion" Tim said and Lucy rolled her eyes "Yes, that's fine" Grey responded, looking at Lucy and they left for the hospital.
