Chapter Sixteen : Beer

There are two schoolhouses in Mighty River; one for both teachers. They're both located on the same lane, built parallel to one another. The older kids of the town study in the bigger one just right across the street, where they're taught by Shota Aizawa, while the young children study with Miss Y/n.

Everyday, the school day ends for all children at three. Y/n and Mr. Aizawa stand between their doorways wishing their children farewell as they make their way home; the children running and laughing as their older peers slowly walk. When they're all gone, the two teachers smile at one another (and perhaps wave) then work to set their schoolhouse back in order.

Aizawa is usually finished before Y/n, so she'll often watch him hop on his horse and ride off towards the outskirts of town. He lives alone in a cottage about two miles away, which is something Y/n knows he has come to appreciate.

Over the course of the last two years, both teachers have spent many evenings at Y/n's house, grading papers and coming up with lesson plans together. They're close—friends even—and Y/n wouldn't change it for the world.

Y/n is in the process of sweeping when the wood outside of the doorstep creaks beneath someone's weight. She doesn't have to look up to know that it's Bakugou, though.

Without saying a word, he sets down the bouquet of flowers he brought with him on a nearby desk and begins picking up books off of the desks. Y/n just started reading an assortment of fairytales with her kids, and the books were strewn all over the room. Bakugou took it upon himself to gather all of the books and return them to her desk.

By the time he was done with that, Y/n was done sweeping, but there is still a lot to be done before they can leave. Y/n assigns the man to wiping down the windows while she cleans out the closet.

By four, the schoolhouse is clean and ready to be used for the next day. Y/n grabs her shawl and the bouquet of flowers Bakugou brought, then after locking up, she grabs Bakugou's arm and lets him walk her home.

They both bask in the silence. It's welcomed with open arms after the day they both had. While Y/n dealt with boisterous children all day, Bakugou returned to work on the Todoroki's Ranch. He spent the better part of his day training new farmhands and herding cattle. He was exhausted, but seeing Y/n instantly lifted his spirits.

When her house becomes visible, Y/n finally decides to speak up. "Izuku said that he's already tended to the horses' feet, but he wouldn't mind if you took a look."

Bakugou's eyebrows raise, "What do 'ya mean he already tended to their feet? When did you see him?"

Y/n smiles up at him, "He brought me lunch this afternoon, and when I told him you were coming over, he told me that it's already been taken care of."

The blond frowns. "Then why the Hell am I comin' out?" He asks without thinking.

Y/n blinks, stopping in her tracks. "Uh... Well-" She begins to fiddle with the hem of her shawl as she searches for a suitable answer. "I thought it would be nice if... if you joined us for dinner..." She trails off.

Bakugou is... upset. In his mind, since the task he aimed to complete while he was here is already completed, there's no reason for him to even be here. Even though Y/n is offering him to dinner, he feels as though he made the trip for nothing. Before he explodes, Bakugou takes a few deep breaths and runs his hand over his head.
