in the time it had taken dallas to come back, i had watched 2 full movies that had come on after the old western show.

darry had gotten up from his chair not long after pony left to attempt to do some laundry. sodapop made a few appearances to the kitchen in that time frame, but mainly he just stayed in his bedroom.

when dallas came back, his figure ran through the door and over to me. i widened my eyes at his urgency, and waited for him to open his mouth.

"on my 'walk,'" he started, "i decided to follow pony to meet cherry and-"

the front door then suddenly flew open and ponyboy appeared in the frame. the door slammed into the wall to the right and bounced back, almost shutting as he stormed toward his room.

"be careful with my damn door!" darry yelled from the laundry room. i could on get a glimpse of pony's face as he stormed by, seeing that his eyes looked damp. he swung open his door and handled it softer than previously. he entered the bedroom and shut it behind him.

i turned to look at dallas, my expression mixed with confusion and curiosity, his filled with knowing and remorse. he stood up and motioned for me to follow him. i complied and we walked to and into soda and ponyboy's room.

once we entered, i could see the younger brother crying, being held by his older brother. dallas and i moved to the opposite side of the room to observe.

"what happened little buddy? what's wrong?" sodapop asked, running his fingers through pony's hair.

"i-i just don't understand. cherry. she told me she...she never wants to talk to me again." he confessed, the tears spilling out a bit harder now.

mine and sodapop's expressions filled with shock, dallas's unchanged.

"why on earth would she want that pony? do you know why she said that?" sodapop asked, concerned.

ponyboy nodded and wiped his eyes using the tail of his shirt. "she said somethin' about how bob's dead, and she just couldn't be close with the guy who's buddy murdered him."

i grimaced at the sound of his words. ponyboy really cared about this girl, we all knew it, she knew it, and now he was paying for the result of my actions.

my expression now mirrored dallas's as i watched ponyboy sit there and cry. sodapop did his best to comfort him, but it was no use.

"and to think i actually thought she digged me." he muttered, scoffing at his own words, believing it was nothing but stupidity. i frowned.

ponyboy had lost so much. so, so much.

his parents, his two best friends, and now the girl of his dreams? and he lost her and dallas all because of me?

this wasn't fair for him, poor kid is only fourteen. thank god this kid has his brother's who love and care for him so much. i don't know what i'd do if i was watching a different story: ponyboy curtis, without anyone to call family, alone.

i let out a heavy sigh and rubbed my temple. i looked back up to dallas, shaking my head. "i can't watch this for much longer." i admitted.

"me neither." he replied. we both looked back at the brothers for a moment longer before exiting the room, heading back into the living room.
