"Agastya, you didn't tell me." My entwined fingers lie on my stomach and my eyes look at nothingness.
"What?" he places his tablet aside.
"What were you doing near the pool, all decked up in that sweat shirt?" I look at him.
"I always look handsome Lavanya." He chuckles softly.
"Yes, you do. But I felt there was something more to it." I press my lips into a small smile.
"I was waiting for you..." He says, thoughtfully. It looks like he has been wanting to say something...
"And?" I ask with curiosity.
"And nothing."
"You know what Agastya. There was no one at the pool after you left. I wonder about the couple who was supposed to be there and.." I lay back in the same posture as before while Agastya doesn't let me complete my sentence.
".. wasn't there. Right? Yeah. People sometimes ignore what they have right in front of their eyes."
"Why are you talking in riddles? I'm not getting a word." I ask irritatingly.
"I mean, maybe.. you are thinking too much, Lav. Maybe they are together, at some other place." Agastya stutters and grabs me to his side. I understand what he means. And I just hope he's right.
"I wish the same." I sigh in response.
"Yeah." His warm breathe tingles my temple.
"You ignored me all day." I side eye him again.
"I had some business that needed my attention. I am sorry if you..."
"Don't say sorry. I understand. There can be such days when me and you will not be together."
"There will be no such days, I promise." His voice comes out in a low whisper, so low that I think I imagined it.
"What does -" I immediately react to his words but he, as usual changed the topic.
He can't even, let me be delusional.
"How was your day?" He asks back.
"Aditya was a good company." I reply with a half smile.
"I asked you how was your day, not about Aditya." He raises his eyebrows for the second time tonight.
"But he was with me the entire day." I say on purpose but I add. "Though yes, you are right. My day was good."
"Of course." He whispers dryly.
"He told me that you guys had it rough, tell me more about it. I like the college stories with angry men at loggerheads. I was in an all girls college so I had missed all the fun." I quickly stand up and sit in front of him Indian style.
"Daddy's little girl was in all girls college?" Agastya pokes my nose with his finger.
"By my choice and you know why. I didn't want to see boys. Otherwise, my dad is the coolest." I cross my hands in front of my chest.
"I am kidding, Lav."
"So tell me more about you and Adi." I ask again. Enthusiastically.
"Stop calling him Adi."
"ADITYA. Is that fine?" I say loudly and a chuckle escapes my mouth at his funny reply.
"Yes."
"Agastya jealous Raichand." I slap him lightly on his shoulder.
"I am not jealous." He is lying. I can read through him. Such a baby.
"I can see that. Well, to your dismay, I have invited him to join us tomorrow."
